The black base is sturdy and made well but the string that comes with it is incredibly thin and kept tangling up. I tried this thing on several surfaces and it did the same thing each time. It was very frustrating and a waste of my time. Most of the time it hit the ground and just rolled around on the ground. It did not come back well at all even if I hit it really hard. This pickleball toy is pretty fun. I would say it's more of a toy than a trainer, because you have to hit the ball a certain way in order for it to work with the bounce back feature. And that isn't always how you will really want to hit the ball during an actual pickleball match. But, it's still really fun and it isn't going to hurt your game play either. In fact, the hand eye coordination and physical exercise is good for you and will increase your stamina. This is fun especially if you or someone you know, or especially your high-energy kids, want to play pickleball, but you don't have a court or time to get to one. You can play on a flat surface that doesn't need to be too big. We play on the driveway or back patio. One thing to note... be sure you tie the ball on tightly and just to be safe, don't aim toward a window or anything that could be damaged if the ball becomes untied. This is a very basic ball-retainer for practicing pickleball. The box contains a base, which can be filled with water or sand for the base, 4 elastic strings, and 2 pickleballs. You tie the string to the base and to a ball, and can practice shots, with the elastic bringing the ball back. The base is made of plastic with a plug and is easily filled with water. I suspect drying out the base for storage would take some time. The balls are standard "outdoor" balls. The plastic base is flimsy blow molded plastic and basically serves as a ball holder. Theoretically, you can hit the ball and the string will bring it back, but I think a Golden Retriever would do a better job. Lost in the concept is the fact that you need, in a real game, to control where the ball lands. With this guy, you could wallop at it, hit the ball into a low-earth orbit and it would be just fine... This might end up being a fun thing for kids, but the ball has to be hit precisely in a certain way for the ball to return to the server. The "bungee" cords are quite thin and not all that elastic.
