Fjallraven's G-1000 fabric is time-tested and somewhat ubiquitous. it features prominently in the Sten jacket. if you like waxed canvas, durability, and rugged style, this might be your ticket. The fabric balances breathability and weather-resistance but is not seam-sealed. you can add wax to it. the jacket has less features but a similar cut as the Skogso. it's more streamlined but that means no hood adjustment in the back or at the neck, and no heat-dump mesh-lined chest pockets. the hood is big but not adjustable at all, so plan on wearing a hat with this to help manage the hood. the biggest quirk is probably the inner storm flap and outer snap button at the bottom hem. the inner flap and bottom snap look good aesthetically. but in practice, tue zipper will get tangled and stuck on the flap and may be difficult to manage because it's a two-way zipper and requires patience. that could be a dealbreaker for some -- who wants to fight with a zipper? while this jacket has the Flallraven pedigree and is well-made, the Skogso, for $20-$25 more, is the better jacket from a technical standpoint. if that matters less to you, and you dont need an adjustable hood, and you just want something with clean lines that will withstand heavy use, the Sten is worth a look. it's not waterproof, but is more breathable than a waterproof coat. also this coat layers wel, espcialy if you size up. the sleeves are a little long but there are two snap button adjustments so no big deal. Mine is going back because it's too close to the Skogso and lacks some of the highlights. in XXL the cut was nice. one key difference difference is a less-tight waist than a Skogso in XL. overall this is a fun and lightish jacket suited for light trail use and commuting. ... show more

    • Perfect versatile spring/fall light jacket!
This jacket seems to be the real deal! I got it recently for a trip to new orleans in january, so i was expecting different types of weather each day. It was warm enough to zip the whole way and block the chilly wind while exploring the city, and taking bike rides several miles out of town to see some other sites. It stood up well in some decent rain even though it is not 100% waterproof, and kept me dry underneath. If the sun got hot, i could simply unzip the jacket and it suddenly felt like a light shirt, and if it got much warmer due to sun or activity, it was super easy and convenient to roll up and stick in my pack or strap to the outside. Very versatile lightweight fabric! I live in Maine, and i can fully expect this to be a go to jacket for those "questionable weather" spring and fall days that are cooler in the morning but feel like mid summer by early afternoon. I am 6'1" and weigh about 205, usually i am somewhere between a large-XL when it comes to shirts and jackets, but the medium fits like it was made for me. Comfortable over a T-shirt with or without a button down, and also works really well with a light hoody for an added layer of warmth when needed. Not for the faint of heart when it comes to the price, but well worth the money if you are sick of having sub-par results with layers you buy. I recommend trying it on first before making the dive though, i was lucky enough to have a "toad&co" location not far from me that carried the jacket, so i was able to try on multiple sizes before purchasing. Fit and look are very stylish too, i was able to wear as a light overlayer when going to bit of a fancier dinner, and it worked well as an around town jacket without feeling too sporty. ... show more

I’m partial to Fjallraven coats and this is a stylish light coat that’s great for casual use or for hiking with bushwhacking or trekking through heavy brush that would rip a down coat to shreds. Fit and appearance are excellent. Nice pockets and hood. I’d wear this before any down jacket if there was a threat of rain.
