For whatever reason I was convinced that I absolutely needed to have a backpack that doubles as a stool to sit on. I just so happened to have this wild idea at a time Amazon has this pack available for regular retail price, and not a dollar more, so I ordered it. I've watched quite a few videos about it and nobody really mentions the frame a whole lot, which is strange since it's a component of a core feature of this backpack. The frame is made up of aluminum square stock and looks to be two pieces, using press-in buttons we've all seen in telescoping pop-up tents, furniture, and the like. The frame is secured to the top of the pack using a pretty generous wrap of velcro around either side and a smaller "tab" on the back side. That top portion of the frame can be disconnected from the bottom portion of the frame, enabling the whole frame to be removed from the bag to allow you to wash out the pack incase a bear pukes in your backpack, or some other awful mess happens and you have no choice but to throw the thing in the wash (even though they don't suggest machine washing any of their non-clothing items, Fjallraven). I have NOT removed the frame from my pack because I like that it fits nice and snugly and I'm not sure if I'd be able to get everything wrapped around each of the sides when I go to put it back together; I'll wait till I have a damn good reason before I go and take it apart. The reason I mention the frame, and the fact that nobody else mentions it, is because it kinda creaks. If you open the lid and grab the frame, there's at least a few degrees of movement from the upper and lower portions of the frame, where they connect, and it looks like all the weight of the user is put on the aluminum push-button that locks the two pieces together. To the best of my half-hearted attempts at measuring it, it does appear the seat is level when weight is applied, for now; it does not appear to slope in a way that would make the user feel like they're about to slide off the seat. If you get a chance, go stare at it in the store and you'll see what I mean. I did go to a local brick-n-mortar Fjallraven store out of curiosity after receiving this pack, and while they didn't have one I could look at, the floor attendant gave me MANY warnings about how NOBODY online sells genuine Fjallraven, I got a counterfeit, there is no warranty, etc. I don't think I'll go back. Fairly sure the unit received is genuine. The toggle system to attach sacks to the outsides of the pack - very cool but takes a little getting used to. The loops are sewn into strips of nylon and are, or seem to be, extremely robust so you do not need to be ginger-careful when forcing a toggle through a loop to attach an expansion pack. Attaching one with cold fingers would be painful and frustrating. Not the best system but flexible and seemingly very good retention given the size of the fasteners. While G-1000 is pretty tough, it's good that they used dirty ol' nylon on the bottom so when you plop this thing down in a bog, on a gravel trail, in the snow, on the ice, or wherever, there's something tougher than cotton and polyester to keep you from wearing a hole through the bottom over time. I don't know how much this pack is supposed to hold. They say it's 27L of volume but I don't know how much weight it is really meant to hold. I take walks with total weight (including pack itself) 20 Lbs and it's OK. Given its volume it could probably hold nearly 40 Lbs but I don't think this pack can comfortably be carried for any distance when loaded up that much. The pockets on the front, while they appear small, hold a pretty good bit of stuff and are shaped well to accommodate and swallow up large-ish items with ease. I can easily fit a pair of mid-sized binoculars and a bunch of other odd-and-ends in the lower front pouch. Finally, I'm about 6' 2". When seated with shoes, my knees are at exactly a 90% angle. This is a very ideal seating height for me. However due to the warble in the two-piece construction of the frame, I tend to shove my toocus towards the back so I'm minimizing strain to the frame, hopefully maximizing the usable life of my backpack seat-stool-chair-thing.

I spend a lot of time in the forest on our property and this pack serves two needs. 1) it comfortably allows me to bring out all the necessities and luxury items I need while doing tree and other landscaping work. 2) it gives me an opportunity to comfortably rest somewhere and take in the beauty of nature. I also have an aging back and the position and support of the seat itself is very comfortable. I honestly find myself looking for little adventures to take so I can use the pack. I added the two side pockets which only makes it better!

Recently revived this pack. Haven’t used it yet but am so excited to use it. Such fantastic quality and construction. The built in seat “feature” is awesome. I plan on carrying this pack in Disney to help with the standing time in lines. Also plan on using this on hikes and outdoor adventures. Based on the quality of the construction I don’t mind the price.
