  • Did a great job
Style: Up Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/8" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/8" Dia - 1" CL - 1/4" Shank
I used this to cut 18mm Sande plywood on a Shopbot CNC machine. Worked great. Extra long compared to many 1/8" bits that can only cut 1/2" deep.

  • No Tool Catalog
Style: Compression Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/8" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/8" Dia - 3/4" CL - 1/4" Shank
I used this on some MDF and expected some better extraction results with this compression bit in the cut. It did cut well at 80 IPM on the CNC. I've purchased a few tools from this company. It would be nice if this brand added an online tool catalog or file for CNC users to add to their software instead of guessing or having to copy parameters from similar tool manufacturers. ... show more

  • Good quality.
Style: Up Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/16" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/16" Dia - 1/2" CL - 1/4" Shank
A few dollars more but good quality. Worked fine in very hard wood.

  • Great bit
Style: Compression Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/4" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/4" Dia - 1" CL - 1/4" Shank
I use a lot of compression bits in my CNC and this is another to add to my stable. It worked well and performed as expected. Only downside was that it took a long time to arrive.

  • High-quality compression router bit
Style: Compression Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/8" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/8" Dia - 3/4" CL - 1/4" Shank
I got a CNC router machine a few weeks ago, and since that time I've been working on learning how to use it effectively here and there as I get a chance. At the same time, I'm gathering a collection of router bits, among which is this FivePears 1/4" shank 1/8" cut compression bit. It is a solid carbide bit with a long life coating on it, which means it should last a long time and maintain the sharpness of it's cutting edges for a long time. Most of my bits up to the point that I got the FivePears have been upcut bits which give a really clean bottom but tend to leave the surface around the cuts a bit rough. Based on what I've read about them, compression bits are very good for deeper cuts in a piece of stock. Because the bottom part of the bit has an upcut design you get nice clean bottoms, but the top of the bit is a downcut design, so the surface of the stock is also very clean, because instead of pushing up the edges of the cut, the spiral cutting edges push DOWN which eliminates tearout and leaving strings of wood that need to be sanded later. It's like having the best of both worlds, but the key is to cut into the wood deeply enough that you end up with the downcut portion at the top of the cut. In the short time-lapse video clip I attached to this review, I am making a finish pass in a piece of plywood in which I previously ran a roughing pass using a larger diameter bit. I mentioned "tearout" before, and there is a LOT of it in this cut because of the extremely poor quality and weather-worn piece of plywood I used (it's what I had lying around). Also, I didn't really cut deep enough (only 6mm) to take advantage of the compression attribute of this bit, so it's mostly upcut anyway. Because of the lousy wood the piece didn't come out that nicely, but I could tell that the bit was doing a great job, based on the smoothness and even flatness of the bottoms of the cuts and the sides. The specs of this bit suggest a very high quality tool, and my experience with it confirms that (even when used an really BAD plywood)! ... show more

  • Not the best for handheld use
Style: Compression Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/4" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/4" Dia - 1" CL - 1/4" Shank
I have several router bits from 5 pears. All of them appear to be of good quality, similar to whiteside bits. They cut cleanly and are accurately sized. However for this bit, I am not sure if it is because of the design or the quality, but I have experienced less than stellar cuts. I am new to the compression bit game, so I believe this is mostly due to my use in a handheld router. In most cases it leaves a rough upper edge, unless you plunge greater than 1/4 inch (which is how compression bits work) but will burn easily if you go much deeper than a 1/4 inch. I was able to get clean cuts using an edge guide and pushing the router faster than I usually do, but otherwise my cuts were less than perfect. Since I don't have a cnc I cannot comment on its performance using one. However, given my experience with the company's upcut and downcut spiral bits, I will say that the issue is all on the operator and not in the bit. The bit is true to size at 1/4". ... show more

  • Very clean sharp bit
Style: Compression Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/4" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/4" Dia - 1" CL - 1/4" Shank
I used this in a homemade router table setup. I needed to make a couple 1/4" slots in a 3/4" birch plywood sheet. I am making "T" track slots for a table saw sled. This bit is very sharp and the cuts were clean, (very little fuzz). Having this in a router table against a fence I felt secure and safe all the way through the cuts. I did only take roughly 1/4" deep cut at a time and was able to go all the way through in 3 passes. I would not use this in a handheld router as it would have a tendency to float above the cut and could get dangerous. I do not have a CNC machine to compare this bit as it was intended, but it worked for my purpose. It is a little pricey, but not too bad. I do have a few other bits from this same company and have all been good /decent quality. I would recommend this bit to add to your collection. ... show more

  • Tiny and Sharp.
Style: Down Cut 1/4" Shank Pattern Name: 1/16" Cutting Diameter Size: 1/16" Dia - 1/2" CL - 1/4" Shank
This is a nice quality bit. The tip of this bit is so tiny and sharp, I feel like I have to be very careful to not break it. This bit is still in one piece. It came in a nice bit case and is clearly labeled. Unfortunately, I have broken other bits that are this size (not by FivePears), so I just treat all 1/16 bits with extreme caution now, so I can actually get them spinning and cutting/engraving stuff. These are just reminders and warnings for myself as I'm putting these bits into my router that is mounted to my CNC. ***Put a piece of foam or a folded-up towel below your router in case you drop this bit*** ***Be careful, don't swing around your tightening wrenches too close to the tip of this bit*** *** Double-check your speeds and feeds for the material you are planning to cut*** My first cut with this bit was very intricate into a piece of 1/8 birch ply. It worked great and gave a very clean cut on all edges. I am very happy with this bit. ... show more
