  • Easy to use and saves fingers
This tool is both a lifesaver and a finger saver. In the past, I used a C-clamp or large channel-lock pliers to compress brake calipers. That method often slipped and often resulted in busted knuckles or pinched fingers. With this tool, the ratcheting mechanism makes the job much easier. The action is smooth and controlled, allowing the caliper to be compressed evenly and with far less effort. It also comes with an adapter, which allows it to work with many different brake sizes. That flexibility makes it useful across a range of vehicles. I’ve used it on several vehicles with different brake sizes, including larger brakes on a Ford F-150 as well as smaller setups on a Ford Edge and a Subaru Outback. In every case it performed reliably and made the job faster and safer. The photo I included shows it being used during a brake job. The mechanic doing the work liked the tool so much that he asked if he could keep it and even discounted the price of the brake job to do so. That tells you something about how useful this tool is. I ended up buying another one for myself. If you do your own brake work, this is a simple tool that can save a lot of frustration—and your fingers. ... show more

  • Better than a c-clamp
Seems to work well so far. I’ve used it on a couple brake jobs and haven’t had any issues. Good addition to the tool box.

  • Great for the DIYer. 1 and 2 Piston Calipers
Remember: This ratchet requires pressure to expand/retract. If used properly, it works great and makes compressing the pistons extremely easy. A magnetic extension piece snaps on/off for use with 1 and 2+ piston brakes, though it was a bit too thick for my 1 piston rear brakes even at its thinnest setting. Decent, China quality similar to Harbor Freight tools. Probably won’t last long in a mechanics shop, but seems like it will last a while in the typical DIYers garage with some care. Recommend for any brake job DIYer — This tool is much easier than C-Clamps. Especially recommend for larger, 2 or 3 piston setups. Tested on 2016 Subaru WRX (2015-2020 model) ... show more

  • Makes the job go smoother and easier.
This tool works exactly as you would expect. There are some other reviews that mention the magints are not strong enough on the wider plates but I did not have any issue with the plates staying on. I used the on the front calipers of my 2018 F-150 calipers and this tood worked well, the only issue I ran into was that this tool did not expand far enough by itself to calaps the calaper pistons so I used one of the old brake pads I had removed as a shim to get the additional width needed on my trucks calipers and this little guy did a great job. This is not a professional grade tool but it will most definitely do the job if you just need it to do a brake job at home every now and again. I highly recommend this tool for any weekend warrior out there. I have always used a big pair of channel lock pliars I have but I decided I would try this tool when I stumbled across it on Amazon for a cheap price, and I must say, money well spent. I will definately be using this tool to do my brake jobs on my personal trucks from now on. ... show more

  • Don't Waste Your Money
This broke the first time using it. Wasn't worth the time it took to load, let alone watch the instructional video. The frame bent, the ratchet stopped working and the plates just popped off once it bent. In all of this fun, the caliper didn't budge a micrometer. Just use a clamp and your bad brake pad and save your money, time and frustration. ... show more

  • A great DIY' tool
Bought this tool in 2021, I've Used it on multiple vehicles, toyota, jetta, ram truck, i think that's it... It still works well, i maintain about 4 cars, on average, and this has been a very helpful tool. Could use a "C" Clamp. But having the right tools is better and easier. 5 Stars!

  • Will probably get the job done, depending on your caliper, probably wont last long though
Ordered this for 4 piston brembo calipers that are part of the BMW m sport brake package known as M Sport S2NHA. First disappointing part, the "smaller" pad set that is on the tool (without the magnet extensions) was too long to fit between the caliper pad area. I had to dremel off approx. a quarter inch of metal on each side, wasting about 3 dremel metal cutting disks which unfortunately cost about 3 bucks a piece, so...about $10 wasted into correcting the dimensions on this tool. After that, you quickly realize that there's no way to use the tool with the caliper mounted, so you will have to remove it no matter what, not useful at all for just swapping pads out. Additionally, ratcheted open to full capacity, the tool doesnt spread far enough, and one side just falls off, so you have to put one or 2 pads back in, then squeeze the metal pad area on the tool to create enough friction for it to expand again. Basically, this will likely work in a pinch, but it really is poorly designed and cheap and a knockoff of a similar ratcheting design from performance tool for twice the price. The only positive to this is it did work, and on the rear smaller calipers, you can turn the metal pads on the tool sideways to make it fit on the dual piston rear brembro calipers to spread them as well. I dont think this will last long term as the metal pads are already starting to curve just from using them 1 time on a full brake job. I will likely end up returning it and just coughing the money up for the more expensive Lisle quad piston spreader instead. ... show more

  • Very good tool
I used this on the brake calipers of my '01 Jeep GC. It was simple to use and worked great. The longer pieces can easily be removed for use in smaller calipers. I noticed some of the reviews state that there has to be resistance applied to the tool to get it to open up wide enough. That is not true. One side has a spacer and the other side does not. You can spin the side that does not, and the width gets wider. You can turn it until it's just wide enough to insert. I think if the instructions were better then most users would see that their making the tool work harder than it has too. Some reviews state that it's too long and it doesn't fit their calipers. They should take a little more time to read the dimensions listed. ... show more
