Only thing I don’t like is the screw on star locks instead of clips to hold the weights takes a long time to screw them on. They should’ve made the area to screw on shorter. No one’s gonna put that much weight on that bar to lift it. I’m gonna try and cut my bar down.

I ordered just the bar, since I already had weights and an old tubular bar that was beginning to show signs of bending. This bar is plenty strong, and I can't imagine it bending with the approximately 100 pounds of weights I use. The seller's info quotes a weight for the bar of 10 pounds, although elsewhere it says 16 ounces! But when I first tried bench presses with the new bar and about 8 pounds less weight than I had been using, I felt like a wimp. Turns out the bar weighs 12 pounds according to my scale. I have not had any problem with the nuts coming loose--they spin easily, but if you twist them against the plates, they stay put. Although that could be because as I have it set up, the outer weights are vinyl coated (not bare steel), so maybe that gives a bit more friction. ... show more

There are a few problems here, the first of which is that I received the weights (more on those in a minute) but no bar. Whether this is a problem with the seller or UPS, I'll have to sort out, but after waiting two weeks for delivery, I had hoped I could be lifting when the packages arrived. The second problem is that these are NOT the cast iron plates in the pictures. They have some type of plastic coating that reeks of chemicals. My office smells like a tire factory, and I've had to move the plates to the patio to air out. They also have a black residue that comes off on anything they touch. If the seller can get me my bar - and if the plates can be cleaned up - I'll hold onto this set to avoid the hassle of returning these things. But had I known it would turn out like this, I would have gone to a box store and bought a set I could see and take home the same day. ... show more
