  • Very nice fishing backpack!
First of all, the Wanoon backpack is large and built for fishermen that need to hike or bike to their fishing destination. Although the top box in my picture is a Plano 3700 shallow box, the rest are average depth size 3700 boxes. The Wanoon will easily fit six 3700 size boxes (not shallow) vertically, and almost seven boxes but it won't zip closed. If you wanted to fill it with 3600 size tackle boxes, I suspect it could fit 8-10 boxes horizontally all of the way up to the top. You may not need that many, so it divides the bottom to hold four 3600 boxes, and the divider can separate it into the top insulated part to keep food, bait, drinks, and other things cool. There are sturdy backpack straps that hook to the bottom, and numerous other storage and tool pockets and compartments. On the top, there is a sunglass compartment, the side a water bottle holder, fishing rod and reel holders, rugged rubber feet on the bottom, mesh holders, and a lot of latches for any miscellaneous uses you may need. I'll need to utilize more 3600 boxes for this backpack to fill the bottom, and then keep my food, bait, and other items that may need to remain cool in the top compartment. This part of the review will compare the Wanoon fishing backpack versus the camp blue Vangue backpack. The Wanoon backpack is larger than the Vangue backpack, holding up to six 3700 size tackle boxes vs. four boxes for the Vangue backpack. The Wanoon backpack also seems to have smoother and possibly more durable zippers than the Vangue backpack. The Wanoon also has a reflective strip that will help if on the bike in the twilight or dark hours. The Wanoon seems made specifically for the fisherman, while the Vangue backpack seems to be a smaller and a more general use backpack with options to accommodate fishing. They are both good backpacks, but for my fishing needs, I'd prefer the larger Wanoon backpack. I recommend the Wanoon backpack for fishing! ... show more

  • Big bag, organization not for me
I've been using a different tackle backpack for a few years and I love it. This one is bigger and has different organization. I like my old one better. You probably won't know whether this works well for you until you buy it and try loading your gear into it. The devil is in the details. I like to load four 3600 size boxes in the bottom so that part is perfect. I like to use the top for hat, sunscreen, extra layer, sandwich, etc. I don't really need all that insulation. (I wonder whether it is really waterproof but I didn't test it.) I also prefer the top section opens from the top and not flapping down from the front. Decide what you prefer and look for a bag with those features. I like the pliers pocket on top but there's no external storage for my knife. I want to be able to pull that out with one hand. I don't use the rod storage. I don't love when there are multiple layers of storage. On one side there is a velcro pouch (for the rod butts I think) with a zippered pocket on top and a velcro slash pocket on top of that. I just don't see how that will work well when everything is loaded. There are a couple of slash pockets that I could use for plastic bags holding pre-made rigs, but I wish there were more so I could organize by type or target species. ... show more

  • So many pockets, tempted to overpack!
I'm moving from over the shoulder to a backpack for fishing as I'm finding myself more and more trail hiking to mountain lakes and streams. 2 really big pluses for this backpack right away - the rod holders are easy to use, and can get rods nice and snug. I'm marching through some brush to get to water and it's nice to be hands free and not worry about my rod caught on some waist high bush and causing me a tangle before I even get to my spot. The second thing -pockets everywhere on this thing. The big compartment(s) are insulated. I do bring worms our time to time and I throw an icepack in there just to keep them from getting gross. The bottom part easily accommodates my 9 inch tackle box trays with extra room, but 14 inch long trays need to go in sideways. The pocket on top was good for fishing pliers. Zippers were all good. The pack was comfortable and though I loaded it up was alot easier to carry that my old over the should cabelas bag. Not unique to this pack, but carrying poles that high on your back means you have to be aware of pole height. One thing I did was to cant the pole a bit forward (the lower part of the pack is velcro opening so you can kind of set the pole base and velcro it in). This at least let me keep an eye on the pole tips to avoid trees. The molle system does work, or at least the openings were spaced correctly. I kind of don't get why the buckle straps are over the molle section - it makes the area an either/or use case. It's just sort of an annoying design feature in my opinion - I ended up attaching a molle first aid kit and initially letting the buckle straps dangle before tucking them behind the kit. All in all, I'm impressed. This is now my new mobile fishing kit. ... show more

  • Well designed with quality materials
This backpack has so many places to put things it's crazy. Pockets and compartments for your phone, sunglasses, drink, tools, etc. Pockets everywhere. The inside is insulated so you can use it as kind of a cooler or for bait. However in my experience anything you store live/frozen bait in will ultimately end up smelling like the bait. So I wouldn't recommend it unless maybe you double bag everything. It has rod holders, but it's almost easier just to carry your rods in my opinion. The large d-rings and zipper pulls make it easy to hook stuff on and grab to open/close. If you're thinking about switching from a over the shoulder or hand carry bag to a backpack, then this is a great option. ... show more
