  • Some good info here!
Reel care basic upkeep in simple terms and some actual step by step tear-downs on many brands of reels, but only limited models of each brand as this is a book on maintenance, not in-depth schematics. There is also great information on lubrication types and various points of interest such as fishing line and reel history. Pictures are black&white but very detailed. ... show more

  • Learning to do it right the first time.
Haven't read it all as yet but the info I have finished looks very good to me. I have a number of reels that haven't been cleaned for sometime and I plan to have this activity completed soon. I have never cleaned any reels and felt this book will keep me out of trouble. Thank you.

  • save your money
First I will say that I have never left a review of a book before. However I thought I might be able to save somebody else some disappointment by leaving a comment on this book. I am a bass fisherman with several "high dollar" reels. Having broke down my reels in the past to clean them, I thought that this book would offer me more instruction to a more "professional" cleaning. WRONG!! You can do more for your reels by looking at the schematic that comes boxed with the reel (or a simple search on the net) than you can with this book. The pictures of the breakdown of the Daiwa Fuego (a low profile baitcaster) will leave the average fisherman with more questions than answers. (I only mention this reel because it is the only reel shown that is similar to my type of reels. The Daiwa Fuego is basically a freshwater bass fishing reel while all the others shown are saltwater reels.) The book offers little in the way of instructions on breaking down a reel. It will also give you a recommendation for a cleaning product but then, in a picture of a breakdown, use something totally different. Seems to me like your are basically paying for a product endorsement of reelschematic products. I purchased this from amazon and paid a little over $39 for what isn't worth $10. In short, save your money, this book is not worth the it!! ... show more

  • VERY Disappointing
I decided to attempt to clean and lube all my reels this winter. So I was pretty excited when I found this book. I couldn't wait to get it. Well, let me tell you, it didn't take long for my enthusiasm to wane. After about 20 mins of going thru this book I found it to be nothing more than an ad for the stuff the author is pushing. I found duplicate photos, photos that are labeled that really don't need to be and ones that REALLY need to be labeled that aren't. I cannot stress the following enough: I have learned FAR MORE from videos and articles on line than I have from this pathetic book. Unless you are going to work on the specific reels covered in the book, save your money, don't buy. ... show more

This book along with Jeff Holder's book on How to Start a Reel Repair Business are both informative and contain a wealth of information for the rod and reel user or repair technician.

  • Cheap Copy
A cheap copy. The origanal came with a DVD with reel schematics that was very helpful to repair reels.

  • Scam Artist, stay away
This guy (Jeff Holder) Produces books out of stuff he finds on the internet and has a website where he lists products for sale that he does not have. He knows how to build a website but not how to run a business. If you ever order anything from this guy be ready to either be disappointed by the quality of information, or plain and simple kiss your money goodbye if you order any of the products from his site (realschematic). If you decide to buy anything from this guy, use PayPal so you can (eventually) get your money back. ... show more

  • Worthless
I feel like this book was translated from another language it is written/edited so poorly. And there is no really useful info that you can't easily get elsewhere. Save your money.
