I'm disappointed in this model of smoke detector. My brother is a firefighter and insisted I get a smoke detector for every floor of my home, and said that if I bought one with a sealed battery I would be able to set it and forget it for about 10 years. I begrudgingly spent money that had been gifted to me on these for safety rather than something fun, and I at least felt secure. Until the upstairs unit started firing off at nighttime. This must have happened 5 or 6 times, jolting me from sleep in a panic, before I disabled the unit. My brother said I should use canned air to spray through it in case something was setting it off but that didn't help. Now, less than a year after the purchase of these 3 units, I've got my basement one giving a low battery chirp every 30 seconds or so. This was supposed to last for *years*. So far the only one that hasn't shown some sign of being defective is on the ground floor, so I didn't bottom out all my star ratings but 2 out of 3 is a pretty horrible rate of defects. Update 10 June 2020: I was just woken at 6:15am to the upstairs alarm misfiring just like the first faulty one did. It looks like I'll have to replace this one too. The good news is these units are loud as hell. The bad news is whatever they don't like about my home seems to be a common issue and not a simple bug with only one of the three I originally bought. It's really disconcerting to wake up and rush through your house looking for the source of a fire you expect to end life as you know it only to realize it's just another defective smoke detector. Dropping my review to one star. 3 out of 3 units malfunctioning is a real drag, especially given that the product description brags of how its unique design cuts down on false alarms. I've filled the house with smoke cooking and the device never made a peep, but we get all 85 decibels at random while trying to sleep. ... show more

Simple instructions, easy to install. ESpecially, if your brother already put in the bases. It’s a long story, but I ruined two previous models thinking they were going off, but it was my carbon monoxide battery beeping instead. Yes I guess I’m mechanically challenged. At first I thought these weren’t working because they didn’t chirp when I pressed the check button. Well, they don’t chirp -instead a little white light flashes. Make sure you press the switch upwards which I forgot to do and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t test it. My brother who’s a jack of all trades had installed previous models identical, so I just used the base already installed. It’s a long story but not worth being told. Now, if only they last 10 years. I doubt I’ll be around in 10 years at my age. They are nice looking on the ceilings. Will I be going up every month to test ? no, my indoor ladder is heavy and I am weak. ... show more
