  • Good beginner guitar
This guitar is so pretty and my granddaughter loves it, but the quality is definitely beginner only as it is not as sturdily crafted. It is good to learn on although ours arrived with two of the strings not threaded properly and it took some time to rethread and tune it.

  • Good for younger children
Color: Sunburst Design
This is actually a 1/4 sized guitar which is fine for learning and younger kids. The problem is that the spacing on the strings is so small it is really hard for an 8 year old to properly play, so I would suggest younger than 8 for this. It does get out of tune quickly, but is fairly easy to re-tune. Overall this is perfect for discovering if a younger child really wants to play guitar. If they can stick with this a few weeks and show interest then get them a real guitar. You will notice the difference. If they don't like it you are only out $35. I bought it for this reason and it worked well for that. ... show more

  • Good deal
The guitar is half plastic half metal. Got it for my daughter she loves it. Based off the fact it’s plastic and metal tuning it with a legit tuner was a little more difficult then a wooden based guitar. But all in all I got it tuned it sounds good and my kids love it.

  • Kinda janky
While it looks like an adorable guitar for a child, it was a uber pain to tune ( went out of tune as soon as it was played) and plastic is a terrible option to make any guitar out of.

  • Jazwares Killed First Act
Color: Sunburst Design
I gave my oldest son a First Act Discovery guitar for Christmas a decade ago, and it survived to become his little brother's guitar. It's got a solid wood neck, wood sides and back, laminate soundboard, wood saddle, standard bridge, and a fretboard with inlaid frets. I still plink around on it for funsies and change the strings every so often when they go dull. I've even covered up little patches of paint transferred from the walls when it got carried carelessly down a hallway or put down a little to roughly next to the toy bin. With the knowledge of how tough that little guitar is, I purchased this item as a cheap camping guitar thinking I was getting the same build and quality. I was sadly mistaken. The entire guitar is made from prefab plastic pieces that are glued together. The back of the neck is textured, which leads to poor playability and would leave a little kid frustrated while trying to complete chord changes. The fretboard is injection-molded plastic with "frets" that are molded into the fretboard. The saddle is plastic and molded INTO the soundboard. The bridge is a non-standard thickness and can't be easily replaced with standard bridges without heavy sanding, which is a huge problem considering it started making cracking noises just during tuning to standard (EADGBE). Even with stretching the strings, it wouldn't hold tuning on any string. Long story short, purchase another item for your kid or for yourself if you want your kiddo to learn basic guitar or as a travel guitar. This First Act Discovery guitar isn't worth a dime. Jazwares should be ashamed of what they've done to the First Act line of musical products. They used to be a way to actually learn the basics of an instrument; now they're just useless paperweights. ... show more

  • A notch above a toy
Color: Sunburst Design
Not quite a real guitar, not quite a toy either. I bought this for my 6 year old after she started asking me to take guitar lessons. I want to see if she shows an interest in the instrument once she has one to tinker with. I didn't want to spend money on a real guitar and this guitar feels like a real one (to a child anyway). It'll play a tune but notes don't sound that great. If your kiddo is already playing guitar, this one may not be for you. The sound quality isn't quite there and the feel of the instrument doesn't compare to the real thing. If your little one wants to feel what a real guitar is like and you don't mind that they're not gentle with it, this may be a perfect "demo" instrument. ... show more
