  • Clean, Controlled Splitting on a Concrete Footing
These wedges worked well for breaking apart a concrete footing without needing to hammer away at the entire surface. After drilling the holes and placing the feathers and wedges, a few steady strikes were enough to start a clean crack through the concrete. The split followed the drilled line closely and required less effort than expected. The two included sizes were useful for matching different hole diameters, and the steel held up well during repeated striking. Similar wedge sets can bend at the tips or mushroom quickly when used on dense concrete, but these stayed straight and continued seating evenly. They also gave better control than using a sledgehammer alone, which tends to break concrete into irregular chunks and create more cleanup. For removing a section of footing, this set provided good value because it made the break more predictable and reduced unnecessary damage around the area being removed. **Pros:** • Split the concrete footing cleanly • Required little striking effort • Wedges seated evenly in the drilled holes • Two sizes add flexibility • More controlled than random hammer breaking **Cons:** • Requires correctly sized drilled holes • Wedges need to be tapped evenly for the best split • Heavy striking can still mushroom the tops over time ... show more

  • nice little splitting set
This set holds up better than expected under repeated use. After putting a good number of rocks through it, the strike faces show no mushrooming or bending, and the steel still feels solid. The rubber O-rings are the exception. They break down over time and eventually snap, which seems like ordinary wear given how much pounding they take, but they aren't sold separately anywhere I could find, so replacing them takes some effort. A drill bit is not included, and it wears out faster than the wedges do, so keeping a spare on hand saves a trip mid-project. Spacing the holes about 6 to 8 inches apart and drilling deep enough that the wedge never bottoms out makes a noticeable difference in how cleanly the rock splits. Tapping each wedge in turn, working around the row rather than focusing on one spot, builds pressure evenly until the crack lets go. A little grease at the contact points between the wedge and feathers keeps everything sliding smoothly and seems to reduce wear. One small but useful addition to have on hand is a magnetic pickup tool, since a feather dropped into a hole is nearly impossible to retrieve by hand. For garden borders, landscaping, or any stone splitting job without power tools, this is a dependable and reasonably priced option that does exactly what it's meant to do. ... show more

  • Made removing concrete from metal posts so much easier than using a sledge hammer!!
I recently replaced my fence and was left with about 50 metal posts with a huge chunk of concrete on each one that I could not recycle with the concrete attached. These Heavy Duty Stone Splitters fit the bill perfectly to break the concrete off of each pole. I'm not going to lie, it was not as quick as I made it out to be in my head, it does take time to drill 2-4 holes in the concrete for each post, and I did go through quite a few masonry bits to complete the task... Note; be sure to drill your holes deeper than the depth you intend to insert the splitter so you have plenty of extra room for the striking insert to go deep enough to actually split the concrete. My 1st few holes, I just drilled the depth of the splitter and it took me those holes to learn this little trick as there were no instructions included in the package. Honestly, I was surprised that I was able to split all of the concrete I did with just the 1 set of these splitters. It really wasn't a surprise that I needed more masonry bits than I initially purchased. Note 2; it really helps speed up the drilling if you use a hammer drill!! ... show more

  • Saved me a huge frustration
This is a rock-solid, heavy-duty set of wedge and feather shims that makes manual stone breaking incredibly efficient. The inclusion of both 5/8-inch (16mm) and 3/4-inch (18mm) splitters gives you the perfect versatility for tackling different hole diameters, whether you're sizing down granite or busting up old concrete. They recently came in incredibly handy while leveling a spot behind the garage for a UTV carport; there was a massive boulder stubborn enough to block one of the corners, and these splitters cracked it apart and cleared it out with ease. The striking inserts are built to take a beating from a sledgehammer, holding up beautifully under heavy pressure without deforming. Plus, the light orange finish is a fantastic touch for visibility, ensuring they don't get lost in the dirt and debris. For anyone needing to reduce massive stones into manageable, movable pieces without hauling out heavy machinery, this manual splitting set is an absolute workhorse. ... show more

  • Pins and feathers = good quality set with a nice design
This is a nice pair for rock splitting wedges with a good design. Traditionally the pin and feathers are three loose pieces and you have to make sure to not lose the separate pieces and hold them together as you start the split. I like the design of these pieces and the o-ring that holds them together. It is great for both storage and for getting the process going. The pin and feathers are both substantial enough that you won't be breaking them on the first strike. I use these to split concrete when cutting is not practical. It is a traditional method of drilling and splitting and works well if you know how to do it and have the proper tools. These are definitely a good set for the job, depending on how long the split is, you may want to invest in getting more than just two as it makes it much easier. ... show more

The heavy-duty construction feels solid, and the splitter is easy to attach and remove. • Makes splitting firewood less tiring
I used this splitter with my standard electric drill and it worked better than expected It helps split small to medium logs without needing an axe which saves a lot of effort The cone design pulls into the wood easily and once it starts spinning the wood cracks quickly I like that it is detachable so I can take it off and store it easily when done It feels solid and does not get stuck if I keep the speed steady I have used it on both dry and slightly damp logs and it works fine for both ... show more
