I’ve been using these Fire Starter Squares to kick off my wood fires in the fireplace, and they’ve made the process a breeze. Tossing 2 or 3 cubes under some kindling and logs gets a solid blaze going in minutes—usually under five, even with slightly damp wood after a rainy week. The 192-count pack is a steal for the price; I’ve gone through about a dozen over a month of nightly fires, and there’s still plenty left. They’re simple to use—no fumbling with newspaper or lighter fluid. Each square lights up fast with a match and burns steady for about 8-10 minutes, long enough to catch the logs without babysitting. I love that they’re odorless—none of that chemical stink some starters leave behind—and they’re water-resistant, which held true when I accidentally left a few on a damp shelf. The claim of burning at 1300°F seems legit; they kick out serious heat to get things rolling. A couple notes: the squares can crumble a bit if you’re rough with them, so I grab them gently from the box. Also, for bigger fires (like a full stove load), three cubes felt just right—two might not cut it with dense hardwood. Compared to wax-and-sawdust starters I’ve tried, these are cleaner and more consistent, though they’re not as compact for camping. For fireplace or wood stove users, these are a no-brainer—reliable, safe, and hassle-free. I’d give them 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 for how well they deliver. These burn great. The squares are a little smaller than I am used to, but they light well and do the job! And they don't smell anything like the starter sticks I've used which have a strong resin odor. These are much easier.

Although these work great for starting a fire, they are so small you have to be very creative in putting them in yhe grill. I tried just putting them on the grill grate adding the charcoal, but they just fell through the grate. I had to put a larr of charcoal down, put these on top of that layer, then put more charcoal on top. I will use up this bix, but find something else in the future. Revised 6/18m: This just dosent work very well at all. I tried it a second time using about 1/2 box, on top of a piece on aluminum foil so they small blocks would not fall through the grate. Although i was using a small amount if charcoal (about a pie plate amt) it still barely started the charcoal. In about 30 min the charcoal edges were lit, but i hadi c to wait another 20 for the fest if the charcoal to get mostly lit. I cannot recommend this product. I had really hoped it worked better. Update: tried to use about 6 of these to light about 8 charcoal briquettes on a really small grill to just cook a small steak. After about 30 minutes they had totally burned out and the charcoal never started. A waste of money and also had to throw the steak out sice i had taken it out to get it up to room temp. They might work well if you use a bunch.

These work great for starting my charcoal in my charcoal chimney. The only problem is they are small, 1" square and they will fall through the holes in the chimney unless you take special effort to prevent it. As far as lighting, they catch fire easy. I use three per batch. There are other larger ones out there, about 1.5" square that are real easy to use, just twist a bit and shove into the hole. Use only one of those.

I’m a little disappointed with these fire starter squares. The size is extremely small — much smaller than I expected. I was hoping for something bigger and more practical to handle, but these feel almost mini-sized. Lighting them also takes some effort. They don’t ignite easily and need a bit of time to get going. Once they finally start burning, they do last for a while, but the tiny size makes them less effective overall. They technically work, but I’m not fully satisfied and will look for a different product to try next time. For what you get, I don’t think the value is very good.

These come in very handy when starting a campfire. Absolutely easy to use, easy to pack, dont take up a lot of space, don't need a lot to start a fire, and they get the fire startes super fast. they are all together great.
