when it has been sitting for a few days and you try to open it using the reader, it takes multiple scans - 10 to 20 for it to open... I have both thumbs, both index and both middle finger prints recorded and none of the 6 will immediately open it when it has been sitting... once it is "awake" it works with one scan... One product improvement should be a small meter that shows battery life... if it is low, and I don't know it and I am at the gym, how would I recharge it if the battery dies? ... show more

    • You DO NOT need a PIN to use this lock.

Ok...I have read almost all the reviews on this BT padlock. The most common complaints is about giving it certain complaints and nobody knows the PIN to connect to BT on their phone. That being said, here are my responses: Only allow certain setting when you are using the App. If you are not willing to do that, then most modern day BT enabled devices are not for you. No PIN is required. If you were doing that you probably did as I did...when the App said to connect via BT, you went to your phone's settings, BT, Pair a device, chose ****FPL, mine specifically said BlueFPL I am sure because I ordered the blue lock. THIS STEP IS NOT NECESSARY. Once you added the lock in the App it will be recognized via BT from within the App. Another review stated this but not in a very clear way, so let me clarify here: This is assuming you set up your lock in the App. Open the App and choose your lock. The screen will put your lock name at the top, a lock icon with a fingerprint inside and "Disconnected" below and a black dot with a blue ring (yours might be a different color) with "Unlock" beneath the dot. ***If you tap the "Unlock" dot it will run an animated icon saying "Connecting", at the end of which it will display a Notification the device connection failed, please make sure that BT and device broadcast are activated". This is where everyone gets frustrated. Your phone is all set up perfect so long as BT is enabled and broadcast is activated. The problem is your lock is not. The lock does not broadcast its BT signal all the time. Only for a few seconds when the fingerprint pad is touched. So, touch the fingerprint pad on the lock with any finger to 'wake up' the lock. It will then broadcast its BT information. Then touch the 'Unlock' icon again. Your lock will almost immediately unlock without using the stored fingerprint. I did not give it a 5* rating for the following reasons: It can be cantankerous when trying to use the stored fingerprint after getting out of the shower and your hands have been wet. The instructions are not well written. I personally feel I should not have to read reviews to figure out how a product works. I hope this review helps someone out to be able to use this lock with BT without the frustration. ... show more

The app nor the lock tell you when the battery is dying. Hopefully you have it UNLOCKED when this happens or you have to connect a power bank to the lock to charge it enough to unlock by fingerprint or the app. If it’s unlocked when this happens the lock will not lock until charged. If it’s locked when this happens, it’s super inconvenient especially when you can’t get into your locker at your job. Other than this it’s great and the battery apparently just died after having it for about a year or so. ... show more

I loved the lock and kept it on my storage unit for about a year. It has given me absolutely no issues until now. Two weeks ago, we had temps as low as 9 degrees for a short period of time and the last thing on my mind was if the lock would be okay. I came to open my unit today and it will not unlock. It is fully charged and it is 70 degrees outside but the lock is unresponsive. I tried through the App and just messed with it for a while but nothing. I can’t access my things now that I need to and am currently writing this while on my way to get a lock cutter. Hopefully I can maybe get an exchange or refund. ... show more

This lock can work quite well, but it is particular about the fingerprints. If the finger alignment is off, or the finger is too wet, it will not register the print and not open. I use it at the gym, and wet fingers is the biggest issue I have in regular operation. I have on a couple occasions managed to get the shackle to try to lock while to the side of the intended location, but unlocking it and apply some force a the right time can clear this. The app is a bit clunky, but works once you figure it out. The battery lasts for months, and gives plenty of notice before becoming unsuitably low. ... show more

This lock is great for being a cheap but functional thumbprint lock. DO NOT think this will stop any sort of determined attacker! It just keeps honest people honest. So think like at the gym or pool or whatever. HOWEVER! It requires an app, account, and to be logged in to work. This really sucks, I understand needing the app for functionality but needing to be signed in is awful. Scary, and should be a non-starter for most people. ... show more
