Yes I know I should change my filters more often. That being said… far left is cheapo air filter, middle is filtrete after same amount of time. Right is filtrete new. The filtrete is much darker almost black compared to the other filter. My conclusion is that it is trapping finer particles and more of them. I haven’t experienced a noticeable change in air quality in the home so you may have to ask yourself whether the improvement in filtration has any practical effect and whether it’s worth the extra cost. I do believe the filtrete work much better and I will continue to use them. ... show more

Expensive but worth it when you need it. One year during fire season, it looked like night at noon. That is to say that the particulates can get bad here during fire season. We use the MERV-13 but during the worst parts of the fire season, we use these and it works great. I couldn't even go to work one day because I was continuously coughing from the air quality. I came home, put the filter in and I forgot how bad it was outside until I went back outside. ... show more

I did all duct cleaning 5 months ago. i am always using but i believe first of all it is too expensive when i compare with Costco and other places. 2nd seems like in 20 days it become black even though i didnt live in the construction zone. Unfortunately, i have to use it. i bought 6 together.

Here's proof positive that this thing works. We had been using this filter on our builders-grade HVAC. When our furnace went, the company rebuilt the conduits such that they gave us the ability to put in a 4-inch thick filter which was supposed to be better. It was not even close. Don't let your HVAC company make you do this and here's why. As part of the promotion to convert to the thicker filter cabinet, the company gave us 4 new 4-inch filters which were good for one full year. After installation, the next day both my husband and I were struggling with our allergies really bad and there was a strange odor in the house whose source happens to be a mistake my husband made by throwing some powdery thing on the rugs that was supposed to help with a problem. Well it didn't and it got sucked up into the air vents, circulated around our house as dust. When this happened (before the new 4-inch filter cabinet was intalled), I switched to this Filtrete filter (the 1-inch size). It worked fabulously. The dust cut way back and the smell was gone. We also noticed the improvement in our allergies in that they were almost non-existent. Once the 4-inch cabinet was installed, all of that changed. Well, maybe it was the lower rating, right? Well, kudos to my HVAC company who got their hands on the 4-inch thick version of this filter. We thought, "great, our problems are solved." The next day, when we got home from work, as soon as we opened the door we were still hit with that smell, albeit not as strong. Even worse, our allergies barely improved. I thought we needed to give it a couple of days. We did. It didn't improve. So, I stuck this 1-inch filter back into the 4-inch cabinet and with the air suction through the vent, it stays in place. Not thinking a second thought about it, my husband and I came home the next day from work and all was great again. No smell and no horrible time with allergies. Why you may ask? Well, I believe it has something to do with the amount of air that is filtered. I did a calculus approximation between the two and there is far more filter material per cubic inch for the 1-inch filter as there is for the 4-inch filter. That alone made the difference. Moral of the story: Don't get a 4-inch cabinet and don't use anything but this filter. :-) ... show more

    • Most rigid filter I've ever found!!!

I've used the best 3M Filtrete filters that Home Depot sold for years, but recently found they no longer carry the same filter brand, size, and quality options I wanted. So I looked around and found this 3M Healthy Living 2800 on Amazon. I just ran out of the old filters and installed my first set of these. I've read all the reviews about how much better the air quality in their homes is, but I don't know about that yet. I'm writing this review to comment about the extremely rigid construction. The worthless filter "holder" in my AC units consist solely of a three inch bracket on either side of the return air box coming into the fan, and I have never found a filter rigid enough to span between the two brackets without buckling under the pressure of the air being pulled through it. I've tried to come up with vertical and horizontal reinforcements, but they still don't completely prevent the typical filters from bending and allowing unfiltered air around them. This 3M Healthy Living 2800 filter is incredibly rigid, and the first filter I have ever found that appears to be strong enough to work properly in my poorly designed units. I haven't even breathed a breath of cleaner air yet, but I'm already convinced these are the best filters I've ever used! ... show more

I use these filters in my 20-year-old furnace. They are very well-made, sturdy and out-perform all the others I have tried throughout the years, and all with the convenience of auto-ship! They are kind of expensive, though, but I have not suffered from any kind of allergy symptoms since I started using them.
