I had to rank it to make a comment. Just an FYI folks, the thicker they are the more they are going to filter particles and longer they are suppose to last, but the price you pay for that is efficiency. There is no magic filter that lets your furnace or a/c blow like a hurricane and filter out all the crap at the same time. If you want a super duper filter they make electronic very expensive filters that you would put in a clean room in hospitals or at the Center for Disease Control. They also make your empty pants 1" thick specials that are nothing more than a paper towel held in with wire and a cardboard frame like you would pick up at the local piggly wiggly. I guess if you wanted to, you could custom build a blower to increase air speed after the air is filtered. It all comes down to whether you want to spend the money and get better made longer lasting filters, or buy crap grocery store specials every month. It's like those people who buy their clothes at Walmart, Target or in the store brand section of large mall retail stores. They're ok if you don't care if they fall apart within a year or shrink up when you wash them, but if you buy lets say Ralph Lauren clothing, they are going to last you till you get rid of them or out grow them. I am an average Joe but I research everything I buy and i'll spend the dough for a better longer lasting product. ... show more

Filterbuy is comparable to Honeywell / Lennox but has more sizes (like this 24x24x2). But, this is MUCH cheaper. Made with a larger than average filter area (squeezed down to 24x24 size), but less than, say, 3M (which is more expensive). Filtrete is another more expensive choice. Now, Nordic is nearly as good (better for dust control) but it also costs more. Flanders / others might be a bit cheaper but they don't compete. This is best at protecting your furnace, your nose (allergens and is #1 for dog hair/dander), as well as your wallet. Now, if your nose does not need protecting, consider a LifeSupply washable filter - it provides all your furnace needs BUT only as long as you wash it often (at least monthly). This Filterbuy will also help minimize any fungus, bacteria, and odors. The washables will not. I have personal experience with both Flanders and Nordic. This is about the same cost of Flanders and costs less than Nordic but is a far better filter than both of them. A one inch filter must be replaced at least every three months while a two inch one can last twice as long (my furnace can't handle four inches). Replacing your furnace filter more often might clean a bit better. If you have pets, you must replace it more often in order to protect your furnace. You'll be able to see the dirt and dander when needing replacement. Make sure that the filter is oriented correctly for air flow direction. There's also the Odor Eliminator with activated carbon to remove smells common with cooking, inside animals, and smoke. No thanks. ... show more
