We have restored too many antique wooden power boats to museum- and show-ready condition for years and years. The final result is driven entirely by preparation. Those final coats of varnish will look like crap if they follow shortcutting, reaching for the "cheap alternative" when it comes to materials, and just plain being sloppy. Even though we can find cheaper tools and materials, Festool dominates our shop and and its sandpapers fill our shelves. P-320 is our go-to grit for hand block sanding in preparation for applying the final 3-5 of a total of 25-30 coats of varnish. As with working up through the grits during varnishing, Festool is the only sandpaper you will see in anybody's hands from the initial flat sanding with P-80 through the final polishing sanding with p-600. Yup! There are some decent papers out there that cost less. Yup! Festool might just be the most expensive being retailed. However, in fact, and based on what it can deliver when in the right hand, Festool is the cheapest product on the shelf. ... show more

Festool Granat is the best quality sandpaper I’ve ever found. It is slightly more expensive, but lasts longer than other papers. Takes a lot less time to sand, you will notice at first use.
