Reading flashlight reveiews, you would think that the lumens this thing puts out would be dimmer than a night light. It's not! It's plenty bright and compact for EDC. Unless you're in the woods trying to signal a helicopter in the sky, this should be more than enough.

    • Get the PD25R instead
Due to someone having given me the PD35 a while back, I got a little hooked on the Fenix lights. All the "color of LED" stuff aside, they make some really solid and well thought out lights. That being said - the E12 is a bit disappointing when it comes to brightness. I ended up getting the PD25R instead and while the battery life on that is not amazing (on higher brightness settings anyway), the brightness levels are pretty good and I like the two switch system better (one for on/off and the other to choose the brightness levels). Plus, PD25R is, well, rechargeable. It seems that the CR123-style batteries just drive a brighter output. If you really want the super-brightness and super battery life - checkout something like the PD36R, but it's bigger (and pricier). Truth be told - get something like the PD25R for EDC and PD36R for in-house/car use. ... show more

fenix are great had a bunch for 10+ years, personal thoughts are all flashlights should start on bright not low for emergencies. great size though, nice for 30$

For the price, I was pretty disappointed in the illumination level it puts out. I have smaller and comparable lights that seem to do better.

    • Been using Fenix E12 as a pocket flashlight for over 10 years and wouldn't be without it!
I've been carrying an E12 as a pocket flashlight since about 2009. Needed ones for family. This is an absolutely great flashlight - I use it almost daily. I always use a lithium AA cell in it, as alkaline cells seem to leak these days. This new E12 version is even brighter and shorter than the ones I carry in my pockets, so family will be very pleased, I think. Fenix makes great stuff, but charges accordingly. ... show more
