  • Very Nice Sounding Pickups
These pickups have a very nice full and punchy sound. They are a great upgrade for any MIM Jazz Bass. They are not really hotter than stock (despite being over wound) but they do have a more full mid-range and better bass response. I listened to sound clips of different J Bass pickups before deciding on these. After installing them I am not disappointed. These have found a permanent home in my bass. They are easy to install too. The included instructions aren't the best (just a diagram). Simply de-solder the existing pickup wires and re-attach the new ones in the same locations. The stock pickups had staggered pole pieces and I had an issue with some strings sounding louder than others. The 60's pickups have pole pieces that are all the same height and so the string to string balance is even. I like them much better. They have the typical growl you expect. Over all they are very nice sounding pickups. ... show more

  • Warm and rich tone-
I owned an original 1962 Jazz Bass for years and played in on thousand's of gigs. It had a ‘great’ sound, but was a bit thin,. I sold it back in the 80’s, I know, stupid mistake, but I had an emergency. Anyway, These are not as glassy on the high end as my 62, but have a very nice warmth and thickness that the 62 pickups lacked. I have them installed in an original 72 Jazz and wired with a concentric pot setup, and a passive toggle switch that runs them in series. They sound like a vintage Fender Jazz should and seem to rise o the occasion of every style of music, passing with flying colors. Highly recommended- ... show more

  • Good choice
Good pickups. I installed they on my Schecter bass and tone is very nice with vintage sound when playing on bridge pickup.

  • Unbelievable sound
I have a mim active jazz bass I put these pickups in the bass and kept the active electronics. Un eff n believable sound. High notes have a pleasant telecaster like sparkle, low notes are round, smooth deep sound, not sharp. I can't believe how great they sound. I was afraid there wouldn't be much of a difference. But the difference between the original noiseless pickups the bass had and these are night and day. Simply amazing! Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Great pickups
These pickups are fantastic....installed in my Japanese Jazz bass & was blown away by the tone. Its a totally different instrument (in a good way!) Nice amount of growl from the bridge when you need it & the neck pickup has a ton of tone. With the previous pickups I would always default to the same volume & tone combinations & couldn't really get much variation, but now finding out heaps of new variations & they all sound great! ... show more

  • Excellent pickups
Outstanding set of Jazz Bass pickups!... built a bass from parts and went with these... compared to a Mexican made Geddy Lee Jazz, these pickups definitely have a much fatter, rounder bottom end with that typical throaty Jazz Bass snarl... with the premium Jazz Bass wiring kit that StewMac offers, the tonal possibilities are endless... definitely worth the money ... show more

  • Pickups Did Not Match Specs
I replaced a set of pickups in a '94 American Fender Jazz that I bought used. It is impossible to tell who made what pickups and since the bass was used and there was some bad soldering in there, I think one of the previous owners of the bass switched out the original Fender pups. I was also having intermittent drop out problems. I took out the old pups and cleaned up the sloppy soldering and some weird ground mods that someone had done. The old pups had normal resistance measurements. However - here is the kicker and reason for poor review - the new pups measured as follows: NECK - 7.06 ohm (actual) vs 7.10 spec.. Bridge - 7.13 ohm (actual) vs 7.4 (spec). The bridge pup is really low. Something really not right about that for a $130 pup. I do amp repairs and have a lot of electrical test equipment, so the readings are real. I put them in anyway since I already had everything ripped apart. I made some test recordings before and after. They sound better across the board than the old pups, but I am miffed about the resistance variance. I am considering sending them back, but do I really want to have to tear the bass open again? Two-Star for lack of QC. ... show more

  • YES!!!!!
These pickups took my Highway One Anniversary Jazz Bass to the next level. Everyone comments on my bass tone, and I just run straight in with a flat EQ and just a touch of compression. I love these pickups.
