I get a strap for each guitar or bass. These strap buttons hold the straps in place nicely without any issues. I have had straps fall off the standard small strap buttons, but not any of the oversized buttons. If you remove the strap when not playing go with strap locks, if you leave the strap on go with oversized strap buttons. ... show more

Overall, this does the job it’s intended to do. I’m blacking out the hardware on a project bass, so this looked like a good option. Even though it’s advertised for a P or J bass, it works just fine on my Sterling Ray4. 3 star explanation: The underside could really use to have a couple grooves for the strings to sort of lock into. As I was putting the A and D strings back in tune, I noticed that the strings wanted to walk towards the edge. They didn’t pop out, but they came close. Time will tell if this will be a problem, but it does raise some concerns. The last thing I want is to be in the middle of a set and have a string slip out and lose tension. ... show more

I looked at a lot of different string retainers. I don't like those that have slots on the bottom. This one is an exact match to standard issue Fender, only in black! I bought it to match black tuners and it looks and works great!

Installed on Fender Jazz Bass build; does its job holding the 1st and 2nd strings in place, easy to install, matches the black hardware, pretty much all I'm looking for. Very satisfied.

    • Beware of the hold down screw

The retainer was great, but the screw it came with would be ok on a new install. However, since it replaced a chrome piece, its treads did not grip the hole. It flew off when I installed the bass string. Using a 3/4 “ screw would go through the other side of the neck.
