Description

1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps, with tone that was still pure Fender but a look that was brand new. With a silver and turquoise front panel and classy aluminum "drip edge" grille cloth trim, the Twin Reverb received a fresh new face as it remained the backline amp of choice for pros and amateurs everywhere. Clear, deep and powerful, it produced big tube tone, with world class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Twin Reverb has been the go to amp for classic Fender sound. The '68 Custom Twin Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender's late '60s "silver face" amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the "custom" channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that givesmodern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. The '68 Custom Twin Reverb's dual 12" Celestion G12V 70 speakers also deliver a more distinctively rock 'n' roll flavor.

  • The Celestion G12V-70s are particularly great
Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I'm older now and can afford tube amps I had only dreamed of as a teenager. Having played through a handful in the past decade, the 68 Custom Twin Reverb is my favorite. I'd attribute it to 1) lots of power, producing a powerful bass response 2) Fender's famous scooped tone stack, and 3) two stock 12 Celestions with a higher wattage rating. I mostly wanted to comment here that I really like the stock Celestion G12V-70 speakers that come with the 68 Custom Twin Reverb. Just to see what I was missing out on, I bought and installed some Jensen C12N 50w's, And while the Jensens brought out more of a mid range, they're harder to work with than the stock Celestions; harder to EQ, they have a mid range disposition that's a difficult to dial out. The Celestions, by contrast, can achieve a scooped tone effortlessly. I've read that the higher wattage rating means less dynamic response, but IMO, it translates into tight, predictable tone. Thumbs up for the speakers, and the Twin Reverb in general. ... show more

  • Never will buy a Fender Mex. It is back in for repairs again and this time it is out of warranty.
Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
Turned it on. Vib sounded like a motorboat. Went past the return window, The amp is being worked on right now by an authorized Fender tech. I will see what happens. BTW purchased a Super Reverb Reissue from another distributor recently. Turn it on. Sounded bad. Pulled the tubes. Looked at them. Well guess what. They installed one wrong tube at the factory. Send it back for refund. So be careful with Fender stuff from Mexico. Just plain dead now. This time it will cost me. ... show more

  • but you pay for the nice warm sound that comes off the two speakers
Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
This thing ROCKS!!! You won't be diappointed. We tested it and have experienced musicians around us. All we got are compliments. We compared it to another dual speaker in the $500 range, its day and night! Sure its a bit pricey, but you pay for the nice warm sound that comes off the two speakers. Great investment. I would buy again. The only con is its a bit heavy but that comes with the territory. If you are considering, don't hesitate. It exceeded our expectations. I would say its best for Hall or gym venues which is the kind of gig we do but then I haven't tried it in a big open parking lot style gigs. I would think it will sound great either way. ... show more

  • Great Sounds
Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I have used mostly British amp stacks and like them a lot. I wanted to get the American clean & powerful tube sounds which the twin is known worldwide. The vintage channel sounds great right out of the box. The custom channel can sound like the bassman, with some tweaking of the knobs, another classic sound. I am extremely pleased with this amp. It is well worth the wait. ... show more

  • Beware - very loud hiss and hum even without instrument connected
Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
Really terrible product for the price. Amp has very loud hum and hiss at volume at lowest settings with no instruments connected. As volume increases beyond setting of 1 hiss/hum becomes unmanageable. Not at all what I expected. Returned for refund. Tone is pretty mediocre compared with modern cab/amp modelling systems that have much more clean signal paths. ... show more

Style: 68 Custom Twin Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I had ordered a new Fender '68 Custom Deluxe reverb and returned it because it had mechanical rattling noises. Later I decided to take a chance on a '68 Custom Twin Reverb because I wanted a louder amp and got a good price. Unfortunately I had the same exact problem. Lots of mechanical rattling, enough that when you're playing it at room to moderately loud (up to about 5 or 6 volume, you can't help but notice the noise. It ruins the otherwise beautiful sound coming from the speaker itself. I took it to the local Fender tech and he thought perhaps it has a bad tube. So he ordered a brand new set of tubes from Fender. We swapped those in and biased it but the problem was still there. After spending hours swapping tubes and playing around to pinpoint the source, I decided its not worth it as it should work and sound perfect right out of the box, especially if I'm spending that much money. So I returned it. I wish they made the '68 Custom like the '65 ones, as I've never heard that kind of rattling from a '65 Deluxe, '65 Twin, or '65 Princeton, which are rock solid (let alone ones from 40 years ago). I heard the same rattling noises in a Hot Rod Deluxe III and Pro Junior III's that I've owned. I rate it 1 star because there's no use having a beautiful sound if it is rattling obnoxiously and doesn't give you the peace of mind that it's a high quality piece of equipment worth your money. ... show more
