Perfect for those that don't trust themselves using an axe. I do recommend bolting or screwing the base into a larger piece of wood or cross section of a stump to keep it stable. It isn't very tall so it's important to know that this is used to make kindling and not split longer pieces of wood.

I have a mechanical splitter for splitting logs, but I had been looking for something smaller to split kindling and smaller limbs. This splitter fits the bill perfectly. It has enough weight that it stays in place as you split small logs, but is light enough that I can easily put it away between wood processing sessions. The welds on this splitter are solid, and I suspect I will be able to use it to prep wood for the winter for many years into the future.

With fall approaching, I am getting my fire pit game ready. Part of this I wanted a better way to make kindling vs just hacking at a loose piece of firewood. I gave this splitter a try and so far it is very solid. My only gripe (which is why I deducted two stars) is the blade portion isn't very sharp, which means it takes some effort to get it to split wood. I even had an issue with the blade even being able to bite into a few pieces. I plan to bolt this to an old stump to give it a more solid platform, and then I also want to use my angle grinder to sharpen that blade - and that should make splitting much easier. So this is a solid unit, but it should come with a sharper blade portion to make splitting easier.

This is a neat tool. I wouldn't have thought of something splitting wood in this manner, but it seems to work. I will be using this a lot for wood for the fire pit this year. Glad to find this! Very convenient and great quality.

I use this for splitting up some very hard Applewood for my smoker. Work perfect on some of the smaller limb pieces to make them into kindling. Easy to use, really sturdy, well-made. Very happy with this product it’s handy and worked perfect for making smaller pieces of wood for my smoker.

Cast iron construction. Easy to use. Just place kindling in the ring and over the blade and hit with a hammer. Much safer than chopping. Blade should be able to be sharpened and can be bolted or mounted to a base of some sort.
