I have barn cats on a rural property and needed a large heated container that wouldn’t freeze and hold enough water for 4 days. I bought LOTS of water dishes until I found this one. It DIDNT FREEZE IN MY -20F WINTER. I ended up crushing my first one and I immediately ordered another. 10/10.

Kept Water Ice-Free Through a Winter Storm

This heated water bowl worked perfectly, even during a winter storm with freezing temps and strong winds. While everything else outside was frozen solid, this bowl kept the water completely ice-free the entire time. It’s sturdy, holds plenty of water, and never tipped or overheated. Setup was easy, and it gave real peace of mind knowing our animals always had access to fresh water despite the extreme cold. pretty large width wise and shallow

quality control could be better. bowl we received was scuffed up on outside, inside bowl has about a 3-4" discolored brownish scuff/scratch looking area on it and it looks like something is trying to pop up through botton of bowl in one spot in bowl bottom. It does not hold 3qt but, i knew that ahead of time from reading reviews. this bowl is shallow as heck, maybe 2'" deep for water area. i wish i would of read better because i am really not thrilled with how deep it is and not thrilled with how wide it is, it takes up way too much room on our porch socket area.. As for wether bowl heats or not, its not quite cold enough to see if bowl actually works but, i trust it does given other buyers gave it good review.. UPDATE: it apparently finally got cold enough last night and at 9:30AM i looked out and there was a layer of melting ice floating in bowl, which to me means water froze over top during the night. not sure what exact temp was last night but, i doubt it went too much under 30 for long if it did go that low. it is suppose to be 30 tonight so will see what happens, it theres is an ice layer again than this thing does not work at keeping water from freezing over on top, which makes it worthless to us since our ferals come out to eat and drink at night! lowering star rating to three. UPDATE 2: eastcoast, got near/under 30 and water was completely frozen! had to wait till around 11am for it to melt enough to remove block of ice..does not work. UPDATE 3: finally returned first bowl, second one received was in much better looking shape! pond was frozen over but, not the water in bowl so this replacement actually worked as should. glad i decide on replacement instead of a refund. Raised back up to 4 stars, would be a 5 really but, insert not being removable for cleaning makes bowl a 4 star product only (unplugging huge bowl every other day to carry it into house to clean can get tedious and not so fun when its freezing outside!) ... show more

Great size, durable and keeps the water from being frozen even when the temperature got -12F this past winter. I have used these inside my outdoor cat feeding stations for the last couple years and both the cats and I appreciate how well they work.
