  • Economical option. Only one sensor adapter option included.
The instructions could be a lot more explicit but this is an exceedingly simple relay, so it’s easy to look up better instructions and diagrams elsewhere. Note: it will only work when all the wires are connected properly. Brown wire must be connected to 12v power. Also, there’s only one sensor adapter provided, so be prepared to find whatever is necessary to your purpose. I’m a little concerned that the relay housing is not sealed, so I installed it with a more protective cover, and waterproof shrink seal connectors instead of the basic ones provided. We’ll see how it holds up. ... show more

  • Nice looking kit with plenty of extras
I ordered this for an older car retrofitted with an electric fan because the probe style switches just keep failing. This seemed like the best answer and looks like it would have worked great. I ended up not using it because the sensor thread size (advertised as 3/8-18 NPT) was too large for me. Typical sizes for many of these kits are 1/8-27 and silly me I assumed that the listed 3/8-18 was the larger adapter. It is not it is the size of the unit itself and seems apparent now when looking at it in the picture compared to the crimps. Since this is a pretty large sensor and wasn't going to work for me. ... show more

  • This solved my problem!
My son suggested trying this to solve my overheating problem. It’s good to have a smart son! The ECU was not turning on the fans even after all switches and relays were replaced. This gizmo worked flawlessly. I had to purchase an adapter to install in-line with a radiator hose because there was nowhere to mount the switch. If you do this, be sure to ground the adapter. Also, the brown wire needs power for this to work. I hooked it straight to the battery so the fan runs about 4 minutes after a hot shut down. ... show more

  • Decent Product with terrible instructions
I received my fan wiring kit today. Shipping was fast and the product was packaged well. Inside is the temperature sensor rated at 185/175 and has 3/8"NPT. The kit comes with a brass 1/2"NPT to 3/8"NPT reducer bushing for applications that require a 1/2" fitting. Also included is a 12vdc 30a short stop auto reset circuit breaker along with all of the electrical wire fittings needed to connect to the included 12vdc 60a 4-pin relay. The kit includes a pre-wired relay seat with 4 wires. Two of the wires are 12AWG colored in red while the other two are 16AWG colored in brown and black. Here is where I begin to have issues with this kit: It is wired incorrectly. The relay seat I received has the two red wires going to pins 30 and 87 which is correct. The black wire goes to pin 86 while the brown wire goes to pin 85. These two wires are backwards and here is why: Assuming a single fan connection, the user will want to wire a 4-pin relay in the following manner: * Pin 30 = {red wire} 12vdc battery (passing through the circuit breaker) * Pin 85 = {black wire} Ground (Connected to sensor as sensor grounds circuit when temp is reached) * Pin 86 = {brown wire} 12vdc Ignition * Pin 87 = {red wire} Fan Power If you wire your fan as shown above, you will be successful. In order to do this, you need to reverse the two wires in the relay seat. Alternatively, you can mark the ends of the wires using colored tape to keep track of ground and ignition. Personally, I would rewire it so future mechanics dont have to guess why a black ground wire is connected to the ignition switch circuit. Regardless, this kit will work but keep in mind that while the relay and wiring are rated for 12vdc 60a, the included circuit breaker is only 12vdc 30a. So if you wanted to wire two fans in parallel using this kit, you need to replace the circuit breaker with a higher rated one or just use a 60a inline fuse. Now lets talk about the instructions. The instructions are poorly written with broken english, misspellings and improper step references. Missing from the instructions is the crucial first step which is: DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL BEFORE INSTALLATION! On the back of the instructions is a wire diagram that is confusing because they placed the wire color labeling in odd places. The labeling itself is correct so long as you swap the black/brown wire at the relay seat. If you did not and you followed this diagram, the circuit would be NC and your fan would be on constantly then turn OFF when the temp sensor reached 185. In a nutshell: Literally toss the instructions into the recycle bin and wire the fan relay as explained above. You get a lot of quality hardware for the value so if you know what you are doing, this is a good kit to start out with. If you are going to wire two fans, personally I would use two relays, one for each fan, wired as indicated above. It is more reliable and will keep the relays cooler over time. Why risk overheating your engine? ... show more

  • been testing for a month and seems to be working perfectly
I bought this to match the new electric fan I installed on my Hot Rod. I really monitored it the 1st few times I ran the engine and it worked great. The original fan OEM was not up to the task, So with new electric fan and shroud it cools from 190 to 170 in a little over a minute, so I like the switch and it was easy to install. I ran the power wire to the switch and inside to my fuse box 20 minute job with the install of the temperature sensor. good price and it works finger crossed it lasts. ... show more

  • Solved an overheating problem on a 1937 Packard 120
This kit and a 16" electric fan solved a pesky overheating problem we had with our Packard 120 car when idling for extended periods of time. Kit is very easy to install and turns fan on and off at the exact temperatures stated. (185 on 175 off). I was able to screw the sensor directly to a NPT nipple on the water pump. Our beloved Packard 120 is now ready again for the Florida heat. Very pleased with purchase and ease of installation. ... show more
