  • A Godsend: Written by A Concerned Wife
OK, so my husband is the one who purchased this, but I'm going to write a review for him after our most recent debacle. If you're wondering: this thing is a LIFE SAVER! Let me start off by saying that our "boat setup" has never amounted to anything other than some hooks, some rope, and a little inginuity (ingenuity meaning some crazy elaborate knot my hubby learned in boyscouts a few decades ago in a galaxy far away thats sposed to hold tight but release easy when manipulated to do so and etc). We recently went out for the first time in years and our setup failed (who would've thought??). These special knots ties by the Magical Knot Man did not do what they were supposed to. They were all stuck and tied around all the boats with a vengeance. Husband is up on a ladder trying to pick them apart and getting irritated. (For reference: every time we have a family outing it always turns out like a Chevy Chase movie. He gets angry, stuff always gets chaotic and the STUPIDEST things HAPPEN!) It takes him like 30+ mins to get one boat down. And another. He wanted to be on water by 10 and this place is an hour away, etc. We successfully get boats 1 + 2 down. He's getting stuck on boats 3 + 4 down and in his irritation made a wrong move! Husband comes crashing to concrete garage floor, landing on a pile of stuff and I cringe as I and reach out to help something beyond what I could possibly do. I flinch hearing him hit. Wasn't a huge fall, I expected he'd be mostly ok (maybe some broken stuff and bones?). He landed and nothing was broken (on him at least thank goodness!), but as he fell, the boat swung and turned my garage into the Hall for the Dead in Skyrim for a sec there! The way gravity took that boat looked exactly like one of the big swinging booby trap axes that... and I watched helplessly as the momentum and Weight rip the hook out of the garage ceiling leaving a hole, revealing his stud finder lied (this was the ONE time he didn't put it on himself and say "found it!" 🙄🤣). It then crashed down into my poor defenseless chest freezer, not breaking it, but adding a very new large dent. Before we even hit the water, he ordered this. We've not had the chance to use it a whole lot yet, but I can already tell it's a lifesaver. Getting boats back up was a breeze and it's going to be a much better (less death dungeon style) way of life and peace of mind for this wife! ... show more

  • Perfect for Protection of Kayaks and Great Space Saver
Very happy with this product. I was able to store my Kayaks to the ceiling in my outdoor kitchen. Now they are out of the sun and rain and completely protected. I bought two of these hoists and they work perfectly. After use, I can clean my kayaks and easily store them for the next use. Thank you for a very nice product. I'm thankful that I found you on Amazon. ... show more

  • Pretty good
I have a 90 lb kayak. It's too heavy for this. It's very difficult to lift. Decided not to use it for that. Also it hangs too low. I'll use it for something else

  • Excellent device to get your canoe/kayak off the ground!
First and foremost I was skeptical that a product so moderately priced such as this would do the job of hoisting up my 16ft canoe and feel safe about parking vehicles underneath. Pleasantly surprised in its construction and durability. It should be a no brainer but make sure to measure out and anchor the included bracket/ pulley systems into studs for sturdy results. The instructions honestly could have been better and the actual rope assembly seemed like it should be setup differently than the pictures, trust me that the instructions although a bit unclear are correct. This apparatus requires a bit of strength to hoist up but is solid if installed correctly. Would recommend to anyone who wants more space in their garage and stuff off the ground. ... show more

  • Great kayak lift.
This product was delivered quickly and was easy to assemble and install. There is plenty of rope to easily lift a 12 foot kayak to the ceiling.

  • So far so good!
The install was a little tricky, but not terrible. I was able to do this by myself, without too many issues. The directions could be a little more clear, but other than that, it is great. I love that it stores the kayak out of the way and doesn't take up much space! It is also pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. ... show more

  • Out of the way
I feared this would be flimsy. But it did the job and my canoe is up and out of the way.

  • It works, but can be better.
As is, it works. The brake is hard to release due to the angle and force on it, the hooks and straps make it hang down farther than needed, and if you don't have the distancing right, these straps can slip off the end of the kayak. With a little effort all those can be changed though. For any DYI-ers out there hoping to make it better, here is what I did: - Drilled a small hole in the brake mechanism for a pull-down string, this really helps get the brake off when lowering it. - Changed the hooks that hold the straps to a bar, saving a good 6in or more in hight. With this, I have just over 7 ft of clearance below it on a 9ft ceiling with my kayak. - Wrapped the strap back around onto the bar to create a sling that holds the paddle. - Hooked the bar to the kayak to prevent any possibility of the straps sliding off. - Mounted it perpendicular to the ceiling structure but doubling a 2x4 and making a plate to sandwich the 2x4 in between the plate and pulley brackets. ... show more
