I have no idea about travel with this. Our dog had back surgery and this allows me to carry her up and down the stairs while being able to hold the stair rail and put other things in the pocket to take down while also being able to carry a cup or glass. She goes right inside and is happy to be carried. She is a miniature dachshund that weighs about 12 - 15 lbs. I like that both ends unzip so if she doesn't want to turn around to exit, I just open the end she is facing. I like that the top panel unzips so she can see me through the mesh and I could just place her in the carrier from the top if she would not go in on her own. One of the support poles have worked its way out of the pocket with the velcro closure, but I just undo the velcro and re-adjust the pole and use it until I need to adjust again. If something happens to this one, I will buy this style and brand again. I purchased a different carrier before this one that did not have removable support poles for storage collapsing and it started to tear where the supports were before my 30 day return period was up. Again, I do not know how this works for travelling, especially on a plane. I don't think the XL would fit under a seat. UPDATE 11/14/2024: I still LOVE this carrier for my needs and actually have two smaller dogs that I use it for also. The only issue is that the support frame pole on the top inside length-wise, (think camping tent pole) has caused the velcro holding strap to come unsewn and unraveled, so there isn't really a way for me to repair it. The pole/stick still stays in place for the most part but will probably eventually push a hole through the zipper door flap. I will use this until it falls apart and then order the same one because it is that good for what we use it for. ... show more

My cats do not like riding in cars and have not liked the cardboard box carrier. I bought this and the last trip to the vet was a breeze. My cat really enjoyed being able to see everything and meowed much less. I did end up having to take the bottom pad out to wash it which include taking out the boards that were holding it up. In order to get the boards back in I did have to cut part of them off as they were in there so tight that I just could not put them back in. Still works great. ... show more

I'm not usually a fan of fabric carriers for cats, but I needed a top loader in a hurry. It was better than I expected...sturdy and convenient. I took off a star because the description said for 20lbs+ (my cat is 21 lbs) but on arrival, the instructions said not to exceed 18 lbs. But close enough, and I figured I could support the bottom, and I was only using it to get from the house to the car. It served the purpose. I did add a towel to make it a bit softer, and in case there were any accidents. I dislike fabric carriers in general, as I have had cats get claws stuck if they paw at it, and once had an unfixed male pee in one (an "I'm scared" pee...on the way to the vet to get fixed). I just threw that one out. 😐 My 21 lb cat just barely fit in this one, but we managed. The top loader makes a world of difference, esp for a vet visit, and I didn't need to take out a 2nd mortgage for this one. Esp since I only need it for vet visits or taking home a rescue, this works fine. I took off a star because of the weight discrepancy in the description. ... show more

Purchased this for my 13 lb dog. I needed something a bit taller than the carrier I had and this fit the bill. Haven’t had the chance to actually take him out in it yet but I did have him get in it so I could see if he had more head room and he does. This product does not come with any paperwork so here’s a heads up...it comes with 4 little support poles...there are Velcro sleeve openings on the inside of the carrier in each corner and this is where the support poles go. About the only complaint that I have is regarding the pad that goes on the bottom of the carrier. It just sits in there and isn’t secured in any way. My old carrier has a pad that has Velcro that keeps it secured to the bottom...so it’s a pretty easy fix to just get some Velcro and attach it to the bottom so that it doesn’t slip around or fall out easily. ... show more

I have three cats; one is a big boy around 16 pounds. This will be large enough to carry him comfortably in his otherwise hated trips to the vet. It came with a soft carpeted mat for the bottom, which has a vinyl type of material on the bottom. This would be a plus in case one of the kitties has an "accident". My only minor complaint is that the four metal rods that go along the top and bottom sides to make it sturdy are a tiny bit too long. It still seems to work though. Disclaimer: I have not yet traveled with any of the kitties with this carrier, but I have it in the living room and all three like to lie in or around it.
