Description

Can you complete the jigsaw puzzles, solve the riddles, and light the beacon before the ship crashes on the rocks? You trudge along the dark, rocky coast seeking shelter from the raging storm. Drenched to the bone, you look up to see a brilliant beam of light pierce the curtains of rain. A lighthouse! But suddenly and inexplicably, the light goes out. You glance out into the water and spot a ship. It is heading straight for the cliffs! You realize that it is up to you to race to the top of the lighthouse and turn it on again before the ship crashes on the cliffs! But many puzzling obstacles stand in your way. In this EXIT game, there are riddles within riddles, hidden within four jigsaw puzzles. Like other EXIT titles, The Deserted Lighthouse has no game board, but it also has no riddle cards. Instead, there are four jigsaw puzzles that you will find and assemble, one at a time. Each completed puzzle reveals a location containing more riddles to decipher. At the start of the game, all you have available to you is a decoder disk and the first set of puzzle pieces. Over the course of the game, you will find strange items that must be used to solve the riddles in the puzzles. The game ends when you have solved the last riddle and relighted the lighthouse’s beacon, saving the ship from sinking. Difficulty level: 4 of 5

  • Very fun, but a misprint made a puzzle unsolvable
Style: Lighthouse
My girlfriend and I worked on the game and enjoyed it, but we're immensely confused and unable to solve one problem because the writing on the Jigsaw Puzzle was in German. We figured it might have been part of the story's setting, but nope. It wasted a good 15 minutes of our time. I trust that this is an EXTREMELY rare occurrence, and the game itself is great, challenging, and very fun. ... show more

  • One of the puzzle is unsolvable
Style: Lighthouse
After trying to solve it for a long time, giving up and reading the solution, one of the puzzle was still unsolvable. Turns out the puzzle was simply not in English, where as the hints and tools were in English. One could say “well maybe the puzzle was designed that way,” no, it is clearly a mistake with the manufacturers because the solution booklet pointed to a word located on the puzzle, and that word was nowhere to be found because its German translation is in the puzzle instead. ... show more

  • Unique puzzle experience that is pretty challenging
Style: Lighthouse
We have a lot of experience playing this Exit series so we understand their style (you are going to use the packaging somehow in the puzzle!) and we had decided up front we were not going to use a hint even if it took us forever. We did abandon that strategy after we got stuck on the 3rd of the 4th puzzles. We ended up using two hints on that part but not any other time. I liked that some of the instructions were ambiguous and you had to figure things out sort of like a real escape room. I could see how that could be frustrating for others or even for myself if I was in the wrong mindset. I'll say that the length of time this takes makes it a pretty good value. Where some of the other Exit games you can finish in under an hour, we did spend about 3 hours on this one. I would recommend this to anyone though as it was a lot of fun and I still think about some of the puzzles a couple of days later. I would recommend this game as well the other Exit games as well as this one to anyone. Also check out Dr. Esker's notebook which is my all time favorite home escape/puzzle room type game. I do get discouraged that the game is typically only playable once so you feel like you are creating a lot waste when you are done. I'm hopeful the creators can find a better way to construct some of the puzzles to allow for less waste in the future. ... show more

  • Better in theory
Style: Lighthouse
My husband and I have purchased numerous games from the Exit series, and so far have loved them all. In addition to escape rooms I also love puzzles, so I figured this one would be right up my alley. I knew that it was going to be longer than the normal one-hour ones, but it felt like an eternity when most of the time was not spent on the escape room parts and instead focused on just putting together puzzles that would be the pages of the book that normally comes in the box and were mainly 1-2 colors. It kind of takes you out of the "experience" of it when you transfer to just putting together a puzzle for the sake of adding a puzzle. I wish they were integrated differently into the experience too, maybe having things for other players to do while someone puts it together, but overall we still enjoyed the game even with the small inconveniences. ... show more

  • Try one of the other Exit games first
Style: Lighthouse
We have done several of the Exit games and loved them. I wouldn't recommend this one as your first though because it was a little more difficult than the others. This game is made in Germany, and one of the puzzles to solve was in German - I think it might have been a mixup somehow, or maybe it was supposed to be that way. It took us 4 hours so a little longer than we expected, but it was a fun way to spend an evening with a couple of friends and work together to figure out all of the puzzles. ... show more

  • Loves the series of Exit games, but this one had a problem
Style: Lighthouse
I own nearly all of the Exit games and really love them, either solving with other players or alone. Unfortunately, one of the jigsaw puzzles in The Deserted Lighthouse game was in German, so the clues for that room didn't actually work out the way they were supposed to. Overall, these games are extremely clever, unique, and challenging. The hint cards guarantee all clues are solvable, which guarantees fun for me. ... show more

  • extremely hard version of Exit Puzzle
Style: Lighthouse
This is my second game on Exit Puzzle. I love that my kids could participate by doing the puzzles together. But in this story, some clues are extremely difficult to find and I think the solution is not that rational...so many layers to the questions and I think those kill some of the fun

  • Good, but not as good as the non puzzle versions
Style: Lighthouse
Overall the puzzles were fun to put together. Some of the clues were vague. Some were too obvious. The most obvious one was the next to last clue. It was layed out so easy that the final clue, that is "required" to solve it, is completely unnecessary. I like the change to the code wheel that removes the need for an answer deck of cards, but some of the lock colors are very similar and it was a little confusing figuring out what one we were currently trying to open. ... show more
