Description

Excalibur (BD)The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table receives its most impressive screen treatment in Excalibur, from visionary director John Boorman (Deliverance, Hope and Glory). All the elements of Sir Thomas Malory’s classic Le Morte Darthur are here: Arthur (Nigel Terry) removing the sword Excalibur from the stone; the Round Table’s noble birth and tragic decline; the heroic attempts to recover the Holy Grail; and the shifting balance of power between wily wizard Merlin (Nicol Williamson) and evil sorceress Morgana (Helen Mirren). With Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson in notable early screen roles, Excalibur serves up, The New Yorker’s Pauline Kael wrote, “one lush, enraptured scene after another.”]]>

Merlin!!!I must have her!!!. lol
This movie dives into the hearts of men. Showing us the strengths and weaknesses of mortals bestowed with a weapon from God. It is grundgy , bloody and a sad tragedy. The directions the characters take, then built to be brought together shows a directing masterpiece. If you like, knights , mud and mortal bumbling as seen through the eyes of the wizard Merlin. You must at to your collection. ... show more

Imaginative!
So a good movie about Arthur’s legend. The music is sublime and so appropriate for the scenes, the interpretations excellent and the scenery a dream. It immerse you into the calvary epic. Excellent!

An epic Telling of the Arthurian Legends
It's interesting we northwestern Europeans have grown so attached to Arthur, rather than some of the other heroes based purely on historical content, or a mixture of myth and historical content, or both. That said, this film is one of the last of the films that attempt our sacred myths and legends - which make a people who they are - that is actually somewhat accurate. The casting, for example. It's an all Native European cast Very fun to see some of the actors like Helen Mirren, in their younger days. ... show more
