🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Based on the reviews, this saw appears to be a high-performance tool worth investment. It provides clean cuts without heating up and has been praised for its quality for the price. However, there were some concerns about the flatness of the base plate, causing difficulties in achieving exact 90-degree cuts.

Pros

  • 🔹 Cuts square and doesn't heat up.
  • 🔹 Locking pin for 45-degree cuts prevents gauge movement.
  • 🔹 Comes with a decent blade for most mild steel.
  • 🔹 Powerful and well designed for the job.
  • 🔹 Excellent value for money.

Cons

  • 🔻 Base plate is not entirely flat, compromising exact 90-degree cuts.
  • 🔻 The table being unflat disappointed some users.
  • 🔻 Blade guards require user expertise during sharp cuts.

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a saw that provides excellent value for money and performs exceptionally well for most cuts with mild steel, you should consider buying this item. However, keep in mind the issue of the base plate not being entirely flat if you need exact 90-degree cuts.

  • Very impressed with this saw
This thing is awesome! I've had a nice Milwaukee metal chop saw (abrasive blade) for probably 20 years. It's just getting worn out. I went to buy a new one, but they only come with cheap stamped metal bases now, not the nice cast iron ones like they used to have. So after much research I picked this one to try out. I used it to build a huge arbor for my wife's garden and it worked great. I cut a bunch of 2" pipe with 3/16 wall, and some smaller stuff too. It cuts it super smooth and so fast compared with an abrasive saw. I would guess I made 40 - 50 cuts on this project and the blade seems to cut just as well as it at first. I cut a lot of angles on round pipe, and one of the nice things is that the blade doesn't push away from where you want it to go into the piece. This is pretty common on an abrasive saw. If it hits the piece at an angle, the blade flexes, and it pushes away from your mark on the metal, going into the material crooked. Wish I had known about these years ago! ... show more

  • Fantastic Saw - Didn't believe it until I used it.
Upgrading from a cut off wheel style saw, I bought this to make more accurate cuts, and the difference is night and day. The biggest difference was the lack of blade deflection, which means less grinding and cleaner welding... who doesn't want that? Cuts are super clean, and there is much less mess. Again, this is coming from one type of saw to another. While this is a more expensive saw, if you're going to cut metal on a regular basis this is a no brainer. The replacement blades are definitely expensive, so go easy on your cuts and let the saw do the work, and it will definitely help with blade longevity. Evolution makes a stand for this saw, which I also purchased. The combo works well and provides a stable home for the saw. It does fold up if you're needing to do job site work, so that's a plus. Worth looking in to. Overall I'd highly recommend this saw and would buy another if needed. ... show more

  • good saw - even better customer service
I purchased the saw and it came on time and undamaged. As far as buying experiences go, very standard. Where this review takes a turn is what happened after I used the saw the first time. As with most guys and their tools, I was pretty happy to get this really awesome saw and start chopping stuff up! In my haste, I grabbed what I had handy, some round metal rod and clamped it in the base. The metal rod must have been brittle and snapped mid cut. It caught the blade and somehow broke three of the teeth off. it also ricocheted around the base and guard, dinging the surfaces and generally causing mayhem. At this point, I feel pretty dumb for breaking my brand new saw on the first cut. I reached out to the customer support with pictures explaining what happened (my fault) and asking if the blade could be repaired or if a new one was one was necessary. I received an email the next day that they would send me a new blade, no questions asked. They were very responsive, and went above and beyond to make my problem go away (again, not their problem). I also purchased a few of their other material blades, partly as a way to say thank you to such a good company. A few observations: Very powerful Well built Well designed Blade guards work really well Don't cut brittle rods without knowing EXACTLY what you are doing There really isn't a need to "test" a brand new saw Admit your mistakes and learn from them They have great customer support Based on my experience, I really recommend this saw. Couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Cuts easily, gate isn’t square
I like it better than my abrasive saws. My only complaint is that the backstop isn’t exactly square in the default holes and make cuts that aren’t square. Once I figured out what was causing the bad cuts I’m able to square it up properly and it cuts fine, but it sucks that I can’t trust the factory settings. ... show more

  • Fast.
I was able to cut up $800 worth of steel and aluminum into pieces to machine parts out of in about 1 hour. The blade that comes with it is for mild steel and did a great job on ground stock. It was much more accurate than a horizontal band saw which will reduce machine time on the mill. That alone will pay for the saw in a year or less. in mill bits alone. The 66 tooth blade has too many teeth for aluminum so if you plan to cut a lot of it you should get the blade designed for it. Evolution sells one. Less teeth translates to less heat and less gumming up the teeth. If you allow the teeth to build up melted aluminum you can break the carbide teeth off of a blade. The speed of the saw at 1400 RPM is just about perfect for metal. I'll never go back to abrasive saws. Only time will tell about reliability, but, first impressions are really good. ... show more

  • Awesome.
I was trying to decide between this new Evolution model, or the very well reviewed (and more expensive) Jancy Slugger. I'm happy with this. Pros: - Saw blade is true to the table. Perhaps only off square by 0.020" across my 6" machinists square. - There is no side-to-side play in the saw body. It seems to designed ridged. - The base is rock-solid. This model is a cast-aluminum base. - The clamp is well designed and strong. - The clamp backing-plate is adjustable with pin-locking action at 0 and 45 degrees and can be positioned at 3 different locations on the table for cutting various sized materials. Very well thought out. - Doesn't pull 15A. According to my Kill-A-Watt, this saw is pulling around 10A @ 118V with no load (not cutting) and about 11-12.5A when cutting. - Top notch quality in pretty much every aspect. Cons: - Doesn't catch many metal chips. (see pics). Granted, I can't imagine any of the saws out there catching chips effectively. - The included vice add-on (for holding round pipe and square-tube at an angle) is pretty much useless to me. Using it lifts the part off the table, which basically means it won't cut true if the part has any weight to it. I can hold round pipe just fine without it. I'll update this in the future if I have any issues with it, but after the first 25 cuts of 2" (2.375" DIA) Schedule 40 (0.153" wall), color me impressed. ... show more
