Thicker than expected. It's thicker than the wool army blanket I got at the PX 40 years ago was when it was new. Softer than expected as well—very comfortable to sleep under even on bare feet—not scratchy at all. Assuming that's the 10% syntetics doing their job bc it's much softer than a 100% wool sweater. The smell is pleasant and strikes me as normal lanolin/wool smell. I'm a cold sleeper and it's fairly warm, but I was replacing an 8lb 700gsm double fleece blanket that was nearly impossible to wash bc of its size/thickness. This is not nearly as warm as that was but it's also 1/4 inch thick vs 5-6 inches for my old blanket. My cats freakin love it and spent the whole first day just rubbing themselves all over it. As described. Heavy weight. Machine washable. Lots of shedding in the dryer, but to be expected. Smells a little rubbery first wash, but a touch a fabric softener removes that. Not itchy at all. Great quality. And very warm.

Blanket looks well made and did not have any chemical smells. The blanket is not as thick as I had thought it would be and lacks any kind of loft to it. The edges are bound so should hold together well.

You need to follow the directions on washing the blanket. It does have a rather unpleasant odor. Washing and using the Downy did remove the odor and came out nice and soft. I use mine on my bed aand it is nice and warm.
