If you got skill to tune up the plane, then you could buy it for a cheap prize. If you are a newbies, be consider, it takes a lot of work on this low quality plane to make it right. Other wise, it will be soon end up in the trash can.

This is the cheapest Japanese hand plane I could find with a 2.5 inch blade. Be prepared to struggle getting this iron out. I removed the pin and still spent about an hour with another piece of wood blue taped and ca glued to another piece of blue tape on the back of the dai so I would t ruin it tapping then hittin it with a pair of pliers wrapped in a rag to get it out. Nothing about the Dia, chip breaker, or blade is square. Be preparedness to do a lot of work to get this right. It’s basically a kanna build your own kanna kit. The blade is made out of tool steel not laminated. But at this price what could you expect. The bottom of the dai has a knot in it which I expect in a month after I let the body acclimate will give me some problems. But we will see. I bought this as an inexpensive segue into the world of Japanese Kanna (plane). I found that the cutting blade (iron) was very difficult/almost impossible to remove with reasonable taps of a hammer. I finally got the iron out for honing but the wood was bruised quite a bit, the plane seems to be sound and quite usable so I will do some adjustments and fine-tuning and it should work great. I would not recommend this to someone just starting out with woodworking, because of the difficulty of set up and skill required. ... show more
