This is my first engraving pen, and I specifically chose this one because of the built-in light. I bought this thinking it would be a fun way to customize some projects, but honestly, don’t bother. First off, the "all materials" claim is a massive stretch. I tried using it on a metal tumbler and it barely scratched the surface—you can’t even see what I wrote unless the light hits it perfectly. The motor is incredibly weak. As soon as you apply even a tiny bit of pressure to actually get an engraving, it bogs down and stops spinning. It also vibrates so much that it's impossible to get a clean, steady line, so everything ends up looking like a shaky mess. To top it off, the battery life is a joke. I went through a fresh set of AA batteries in about twenty minutes of actual use. Save your money and just buy a real Dremel or a high-quality engraver. This feels like a cheap toy that should be in a dollar store, not a "professional craft kit." Definitely wouldn't give this as a gift unless you want to disappoint someone.

Very handy engraver. No cords to mess with. Used it on some brass and wood so far. Size is nice and compact. Takes some practice free handing when using it. Only negative so far was that all the bits fell out of their places in the little container during shipping or before and they have a specific spot to go in so figuring out where some of them go was a hassle.

This was a very inexpensive compact tool. I used it for a stainless steel project I was trying to customize and found it a little difficult to draw my patten. I had to go over it a few times and it didn’t come out how I imagined. It definitely works, you just have to have a steady hand. Might work better on other items like leather and wood.
