A treasure trove of information and experience wrapped in a simply stunning book production.

I cannot recommend this book enough. Yes it's expensive but it's not just the wealth of information but the way that information is conveyed to you in Mr. Sellers singular style that makes you go " yeah I get it, I can see that, I can do that" that makes this book extraordinary. This book is huge and every single page can teach you something, even how to make the famous rag in a can oiler. A few words about the production quality. The paper is some of the finest printing paper I've encountered from the weight to the feel in hand it's simply outstanding. The photography and subsequent print quality is stunning. The font is easy to read and I found not a single flaw in the entire book. Mr. Sellers personal sketches used to convey some detail he's trying to show you are just one of my favorite parts of the book. ( they also disclose just how good of an artist he is ) For far less than the cost of a single good chisel I've advanced my understanding of woodworking and woodworking tools exponentially.

This is the definitive book on hand tools
Format: Hardcover
This is the definitive book on hand tools. It has both breadth and depth. It covers the acquisition, care and use of virtually every hand tool. As a result it is a very large book but Paul really takes the time to describe in great detail how to sharpen and use every hand tool. The book is also exceedingly well written and illustrated. The only criticism I have is that occasionally, there is a little bit of repetition. I know this book is expensive but it is worth every penny. You are getting a craftsman's lifetime of learning in a clear presentation. Spend the money, you won't regret it.

Comprehensive, well-written and superbly illustrated

My husband, an advanced woodworker really loves this book. Although it is expensive, it is well worth it because it is done so well. It is a wonderful reference guide.

Wonderfully illustrated collection of woodworking techniques

Paul Sellers is a highly experienced cabinet maker who uses mostly hand tools to ply his trade. His articles and blogs are articulate, informative and easy to understand. The material in this book is no exception. Paul has put together a collection of woodworking techniques, illustrated by clear pictures and complimented by descriptions and maintenance of the tools used to perform each operation. Great Book! If I had a criticism, it would be that the type is slightly small, probably because the book has so much material that the size of the book would be prohibitive if the type were larger.

This is an astounding book!

This is an astounding book. It is not a projects book, however, so if that is what you want buy something else. What this book offers is a crystal clear description of almost all the hand tools that most woodworkers use regularly--what to look for in choosing a tool how to maintain it and how to use it most effectively. I did not purchase the DVD version as I had subscribed to the author's YouTube channel and watched 25 to 30 videos before buying the book. While I could be wrong, I made an assumption that the DVD contained most of the same content. Anyone who has not seen Paul Sellers' channel should seriously think about purchasing the DVD version.

Masterwork from a great teacher

I know of no other books on the subject of “real” woodworking as useful, accessible, and informative as Paul Sellers’ books. This is the most content packed text on the subject of the use, setup, and care of essential woodworking hand tools that one could ever hope for. As with Mr Sellers’ online masterclasses, studying and applying his techniques will lead to real progress as a fine woodworker. This book is worth every penny.

They are both great carpenters, but Paul Sellers does the finer work
Format: Hardcover
Paul Sellers is one of the few carpenters who gives clearer instructions than Roy Underhill. In fact, I prefer Mister Sellers to Mister Underhill. They are both great carpenters, but Paul Sellers does the finer work. Roy Underhill prides himself on being a "woodright," which I suppose has its place, but he does not make it clear that you need not spend tons of money on tooling to get started. Mister Seller does exactly that and, he shows how to sharpen any tool with best and clearest instructions I have ever seen. If Roy Underhill is a woodright, then Mister Sellers is a woodfitter.
