Bought three of these, they do require that you securely fasten to something secure. I used a cut piece of 2” x4” 6” long with lag bolts holding the 2x4 to th structure and then you can use the screws they sent you Note I had bird feeders three feet long full of food and these worked great You can also tiurn them even though you turned the turn screw down ( so you can fill them up )

They are strong and well made, but when the pieces are screwed together, the two ends do not line up properly. I had to use a plastic washer between the two pieces to insure they were lined up and tight.

We were really impressed with the quality of this bird feeder holder. It has a nice weight to it and feels like it will hold up for a long time. The swivel action makes filling the feeder, and repositioning it a breeze. Installation was easy, just 4 screws to set, and the feeder was ready to go! My only regret is that we didn’t take advantage of the better price option when buying two at a time. I don’t know if it’s the height, or the distance away from our deck, but the hummingbirds prefer to use the feeder hanging from this new holder compared to our other feeder!

My deck rail is 'sculpted' so I cannot use some of the more popular rail mounts. I wanted something on which to hang hummingbird feeders. I bought a pair of one kind of rail...excellent but with only an 11 inch rod; my feeders hung too low for me to see! This purchase was made to get the extended length. The rod comes in 3 sections; I did not need to use the middle section to get my feeders adequately elevated. The rod can be moved at an angle within its holding sleeve which opens the potential of some different variations depending on the style and contours of your deck railing. So far it has proven very sturdy and when properly tightened is not influenced by the relatively strong gusty winds I experience at my location. Ask me next year about how it held up to the seasons!

These are way better than using a hook and chain. Just the ability to swing the plant back in to water it is worth it. I dump a gallon of water into the hanging baskets and these have no problem with the weight. I have 6 of them and cannot imagine a better solution for our deck.

This was just what I needed! It does not seem to tighten super tight, so the raccoons learned how to bring it over to the deck and feast. Fixed that with a mini slinky from Dollartree. Just put it over the length of the extension and now it “boings” when they touch it. They leave the bird feeder alone now and just ravage my trash can.
