I'm new to wood turning, and this 3-piece Rockler carbide pen turning tools was my first purchase after I bought my lathe, and I'm very happy I chose this set of tools. They cut through soft wood, hard wood, stabilized wood and acrylics with ease. They are designed for small projects like pen turning, so I do not recommend them for larger projects. If making pens, rings, bottle stoppers, letter openers, etc. is your intention for these tools, you won't go wrong purchasing this set. I purchased them during a Rockler sales event for $99.00.

None of the cutters in the market fits these tools, you have to find a rockler store or order online from them to buy one, and it is nearly 3 times more expensive

I usually don't write reviews. If your product is good I am happy and move on. Last Christmas I got a jet lathe and had no idea what I was doing. I got this set because of a YouTuber said they where good and quality was very good. I have used them for about a year and love them! Yes the replacement carbides are harder to find but easy if you have the web and go to Rockler. $20 bucks per head and usually you get a year out of them. High speed steel for a good quality tool is $100 and they need to be sharpened often like during a turning you may need to sharpen the tool. This is done by a slow speed grinder and a jig. Now I am starting to go this way but it's taken me a year and I still prefer these chisels over my HSS. The set is a great set to own and will always stay with you.
