I'll be honest, the low price and lack of true brand name recognition in the hunting arena really made me skeptical to buy this mask. I hunt late season, in one of the coldest places you can in the US, and going out on a limb was something I literally took months talking myself into doing. In Northern Minnesota in December, seeing 0 is a rarity. My first hunting trip started at -15 and warmed up to a balmy -5. This mask performed perfectly. Sitting in a stand, with a brisk wind ripping through, didn't have any cold issues on the nose, cheeks or anything that was covered by this mask. I do wear an extra hat to keep ears and head warm, but, that should go without saying in that kind of cold. Comfortable to wear? Very. I wore it some days with sun glasses on and found it really easy to slip the shades on and off through the day. I didn't find it nearly as tight as others have mentioned, but, that is entirely personal considering face-shape and size etc. Considering I was wearing the mask for 10-11 hours at a time with no issues, I'd say the comfort box gets checked. One thing I also found very nice was the ease of sliding the face/nose shield piece down to get some fresh air. Far too often in a lot of these products that functionality gets lost. When you just want a breath of cold, fresh air without that in your path, the last thing you want to do is take the whole thing off. I have worn this turkey hunting in the spring as well, which required a lot more trekking and moving as we closed in on a gobbler, and the mask stayed in place very well. It also didn't overheat me to no ends, which speaks to the breathability moving through the woods, a field or two, and then getting things setup. All in all, for the money, is well worth a buy for any hunter to have. I can't speak to it being as good as a "scentLok" product in terms of hiding odor, but, I've never had a deer wind me and run because of the mask failing. So, take that as you'd like even if you're a brand snob.

I have been using this product for the past 5 months in temps that average around 17 degrees Fahrenheit with about an 8 degree windchill. The warmest I have used it in has been 32 degrees and the coldest has been -29 degrees. I ride my bicycle to work every day and I run outdoors year round. In the Winter once the temps dropped below 30 degrees I found that my face was always feeling numb and my mouth and lungs hurt as I did my activities outdoors. I then started covering my face with a bandana but after about 6 minutes of heavy breathing, the bandana gets soaked. It also only provides a covering from the wind and not any extra warmth. I knew that I should be looking for an item of clothing called a balaclava. I selected this one on Amazon based on the price and the quantity of reviews. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the purchase. So much so that I bought an additional one! Wow! So when I ride my bike and run, this thing gets HOT. If the temp is above 15 degrees I usually end up getting so warm I have to take it off after awhile! I absolutely love the mesh part around the mouth because it does a great job of blocking air so I don’t feel the burn from breathing in frigid air yet it allows enough airflow that it doesn’t get completely drenched from the humid air of my breath. Having that sets it apart from all other ways of covering my mouth. While it does get a little moist around the mouth after about 15 minutes it is nowhere near as bad as if you had just used a regular piece of cloth for covering. This balaclava was the missing link in my life and now I can freely walk and move around in the cold and I don’t even notice it! The fitment around the eyes is perfect for my size of face leaving very little skin exposed. I decided to take a vacation to Denali National Park in January and I was excited to bring the balaclava along to see how it would fare. Needless to say it kept me safe and warm as I was out hiking in negative temperatures! When properly bundled up in Winter gear, I felt completely safe and warm from the cold air around me. If it works in Alaska in the Winter then it will probably work great for you wherever you live. 100% would buy again, 5 out of 5 stars!!!!

I recently purchased the Ergodyne N-Ferno 6823 Balaclava Ski Mask and I am very happy with it. I have been using it for skiing and snowboarding and it has kept me warm and comfortable even in cold weather. The mask is made from a wind-resistant fleece that blocks out the cold air, and it also has a hinged design that allows me to adjust the amount of coverage I need. This is great for when I am wearing a helmet, as I can just open the bottom of the mask to breathe more easily. I also like that the mask is very versatile. I can wear it as a full face mask, a neck gaiter, or just a face shield. This is great for different activities, as I can adjust the coverage depending on my needs. 1-6-17 I'm reviewing the N-Ferno 6823 Thermal Fleece headwear in Black. My main reason for purchasing, was to protect my face from the high winds when doing outdoor labor. I do a multitude of tasks outdoors. I'm a mobile mechanic that works on site out in the elements. As other technicians know, it's not a very active job. A lot of time under the hood or under a vehicle... same goes when working on equipment. That frigid air goes right through you, and if hit in the face, it takes your breath away. I also help a groundskeeper at an estate, which can be just as inactive, but even when you are active, your face can freeze! Well, I have tried other styles of face/neck warmers but have not quite found one I like too much. My preferred type was the bandana with velcro in back at the nape of my neck, but it twists too much or too suffocating when worn for long periods (I can't stand to have my mouth and nose covered too long). I'm the type person that needs fresh air, I can't even sleep with my head under the covers... my nose MUST be out. OK, so this covers how particular I am. I now think this is my preferred headgear. When wearing the full face, I find that their nose and mouth guards are MUCH more breathable than anything I've tried in the past but also warm enough that I can catch my breath. However, I more commonly wear it on my chin keeping my mouth and nose clear. When the wind kicks up, I just slide the chin over my nose. I love the fact the hat just stays put. It doesn't twist on me too much... the only issue is the top of my hat/head walks back on me due to the hoodie. I'm a girl, with shoulder blade length hair, so the trick to wearing this is putting my hair up in a low bun. If my hair is in a pony tail or down, it eventually walks to my mouth or cheeks, which is quite aggrevating in the middle of a job. I usually wear a bandana on my head underneath, whether I'm wearing this N-Ferno Hat or any other thermal hat, skully, etc. It just seems to help with keeping the hats from sliding all over the place. I'm giving the N-Ferno headgear 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that it's colorfasting on my skin. So at the end of the day I need to scrub my face and neck... it's causing blackheads and tinited skin. I'm hoping that washing it with White Distilled Vinegar will help with that and 2 or 3 more washes. It's my only peeve with this thing, and if it doesn't improve, I'll be dropping another star. I can't have outerwear causing blackheads or any other skin issues. That's ridiculous. I did buy 2 of these, by the way. One for myself and one for my daughter. She's experiencing the colorfasting too, and she thoroughly agrees with everthing else I mentioned. She helps me with my work on sites or maintenance on the house & vehicles, so staying warm is huge, especially since she's new to all this. I bought this from the seller "Amazon LLC", which I feel is important to list this info. I've come across sellers with variances in their items, including knockoffs, even if listed as same brand. I'll post an update with a durability review.

I'm an amateur astronomer and I spend a lot of time standing around in the cold. As you may know, keeping your head warm will keep the rest of you warm but finding a good option that allows you to move around without something obstructing your vision is a challenge. Some hood "socks" are pretty bulky and slide around your head - but they do work very well. But having to push them off of your eyes each time as you bend over is quite a hassle. This hood solves that problem. Made well from good materials, it snugly fits against your skull and you can easily move it around. The best part is that once you locate it to where you want, it stays there. Yes, it really stays there until you adjust it again. I also like the design where you can choose how much of your face is covered. There are few nights when I have to use the "eye slit-only" feature , but it is nice to use in a pinch. The mouth screen "works" but it will dew up after prolonged use and may even freeze when the temperatures are really low. I really like this design. It is light weight and keeps the heat in, the two most important things to me for buying such head gear. Keep looking up!

I did a lot of research before buying this with my husband out in the cold most of the time he needed something that really would keep him warm. He is very pleased and won’t leave home without it. In the home he said it keeps him so warm you can’t stand it. Out in the cold he stays very warm and dry. This year has been a very bitter winter in VA this is a must if you are out in the cold. It is great for hunting, fishing, playing and working. The size fits great from him to me it fit snug, l love that you can use it in many different ways coving what part of your head or face you want. You can wear a hat with it, it isn’t too bulky I was worried about breathing with this you have no trouble it is vented very well making breathing easy but still keeps wind out. Which is a big issue with me I have to be able to breathe easy or I feel like I am suffocating. My husband wears glasses and so far he does not have any issues, if this becomes a problem I will update. Bottom line it keeps your head and face warm through any cold weather that we have come across. Fits snug, light weight, easy to put on, you can wear it many different ways for whatever your needs are. Able to breathe easy, keeps the wind out, does not obstruct your vision. Well worth the money. We plan to put one or two in each of our cars so we have one with us at all time.
