I went back and forth on a couple printers before buying the XP-8800. I am so happy with this printer. I picked it up this morning, got home and set it up. Initial set up took about 10-15 minutes. I used my phone for the set up. Connecting to my laptop was easy. I purchased this printer mainly to print photos out to use with craft projects. I am more than pleased how the prints come out and I only printed 3 pages. 1 was on regular cheap paper. Then the other two were on ultra premium glossy paper. And WOW. bright, vibrant, clear prints. The only thing I am concerned about is the ink cartridges are pretty small. So not sure how many prints I will be getting with them, but I knew about the sizes when I bought the printer. Replacements arent too expensive like others are, and theres 6 colors. I dont usually leave reviews, so if you have reached this part of the review and you are looking for an affordable printer to print photos on. This is the one.     • A good dependable printer
So far, so good. Had trouble in the beginning, the power cord was wrapped up tightly and taped to the BOTTOM of one of the Styrofoam packing pieces. Yes, the bottom. How clever. I returned the first one because it seemingly had no cord. I guess none of the Epson boys realize that the Styrofoam packing pieces are usually ignored entirely before they're finally thrown away. I mean, why would you look on the bottom of the Styrofoam pieces...for ANYTHING??? Oh well, live and learn. Yes, I returned it only to get another one, also with no cord. By this time, I realized that something really weird was going on, so I examined the packing stuff, inch by inch and found the cord. (Did I say it was ON THE BOTTOM ? Of the Styrofoam packing?) Anyway, it seems to print fine. However, another warning: The printing commands show up in the little screen on the printer, that's where the "real" commands are. Commands from your computer are ignored, so don't print stuff the way you're used to doing. Just pay attention to that little screen on the front of the printer. So far I have to say, it works!! It's amazing to me, every time I want something to print out and it actually prints!! (100% better than my last HP did, which almost never printed - except when you shut it down for five minutes each time and started all over again). A good buy for the money. ... show more

    • nightmare mare to install, directions are terrible
well the first one came used with ink installed and paper inside would not work, tried so many places to get help, so I got another could not ger it hooked to my phone or computer, finally gave up spent 80 dollars for the GEEK SQUAD to go into my computer remotely to get it to work Still upset with Amazon for sending me a used one or the Epson , prints great after weeks and a cost to help install ... show more

Love this printer for printing photos! Scanning black and white documents is so-so, but I didn't buy it for documents, I bought it to print pictures, and it excels at that! Fast, crisp color, and perfect detail. You will need to adjust your color settings depending on the image, but it's easy to do. Setting it up to print wirelessly from my iPhone & my laptop were easy, too. Highly recommend this quiet little printer for photos. ... show more

So far so good. Easy enough setup, connected to my network easily and prints very well. I especially appreciate the little quirks, especially the automatically extending tray for receiving the printed pages and the different sized paper storage trays. Not sure how much the ink will end up costing in the end, but if you're printing occasionally and want high quality, this is an excellent machine. ... show more

First, I am returning this printer after two tests. The first test was to check for text. It was fine for my needs, which are minimal. I print text for my 2 youngest kids’ homework, which is about all we need. The second test was for photo quality and it just wasn’t up to my standards. For context, I print photos for personal use, but I am a photographer and graphic artist as well as a family gal, so I tend to print photos to give to family, hang on my own walls, or use in scrapbooks. I used to have a Canon Pixma MG7720 and that puppy was a dream machine for printing photos on transparent and white glossy stickers. I loved the color blending the most, but the colors were right on the nose, too. On to the Epson XP-8800. On the first side-by-side test of 7 images on glossy transparent sticker, the Epson images were oversaturated and had terrible blending. On the Epson, my youngest daughter’s hair looked like a leopard instead of the gorgeous dark blond silkiness that it was. I cannot make out the strands at all and the spots/blotches ruined the entire vibe. The Canon had blended the colors so perfectly that I could make out strands of hair. The pic is about 2in x 3in. Her hair covers less than .5in x 1.25in of the pic. I’m going back to Canon. ... show more

Needed something to dedicate to printing photos and this fit the bill. Great price thru Amazon. Instructions for set up was easy thru the QR code. As far as speed of printing pictures , it does pretty well , other photo printers I've had were slower. Ink cartridges are also available thru Amazon at a reasonable price. ... show more
