  • Worth Every Penny!
Style: R5 C Body Only
I recently bought the Canon R5 and I'm beyond impressed. The image quality is outstanding, with sharp details, beautiful colors, and incredible dynamic range. The autofocus is lightning-fast and accurate, making it perfect for both photography and video work. I’ve especially loved the 8K video capability — it’s a game-changer. The build quality feels premium and durable, and the in-body stabilization works like magic. Battery life is decent, and the touchscreen interface is intuitive and responsive. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast looking to step up your gear, the R5 is a fantastic choice. Very happy with my purchase! ... show more

  • Swiss Army Camera for Indie’s
Style: R5 C Body Only
This camera is the Swiss Army knife of cameras. To be clear, I have shot for several years now professionally for both photo and video, but I am not someone who has been in the industry for an incredibly long time. That being said I have worked with a lot of cameras from the BMPCC4k/6k, FX3, C300 mII, etc. Of all of these I have been the most impressed with the R5 C The biggest advantages are great resolution, great photography capabilities, good dynamic range, dual native ISO, and lack of Canon IBIS (which is definitely an advantage). In my use of this camera the dual native ISO has been one of my favorite features. I also find the dynamic range quite usable and more than what I need. If you are disappointed with the video quality then you either don’t know how to use it, or are looking for a camera that is in a much more expensive price category. What really sets this camera apart is the photography capabilities. Other cameras have great video, but few cameras can boast these video capabilities AND 45MP RAW stills up to 20fps. That is crazy. The photos look good too. Plenty of resolution for printing or cropping, good dynamic range (again), and colors hold up well in the edit. Disadvantage: battery. Solution: V-Mount. You’ll probably want to rig it up anyway so I haven’t found this to be much of an issue in practical use. My friend uses an FX3 and our rigs are almost identical in size, so for video this isn’t a problem with a proper external power source since you’ll probably need one anyway for a good cinema rig. For photos, battery life is fine. Carry a back up, but you’ll probably do that anyway. Hope this helped! Purchase a camera that you need and not just one you want! Edit: Also make sure you have a good cable clamp, that mini HDMI is usable but is something to be careful with. ... show more

  • a Netflix approved camera
Style: R5 C Body Only
One of the very few, and one of the few that are relatively affordable. Hands down, this is a very powerful camera for photography and videography, and starts a deep dive for the owner to get to a level to take advantage of its power. Building a rig becomes a challenge, and then comes buying all of the best glass money can buy. Then graduating to cine lenses... it all becomes excessive intoxicating. But once you complete your collection, inevitably your curiosity about Sony starts, and then you want to get a Sony FX3 as well, and all of the complementary lenses, and then cine lenses. All of this all because I wanted to get a Netflix approved camera for a video that I have yet to devise, and still in the process of learning how to make. Crazy thing is that with all of these bells and whistles, I really enjoy going manual mode and using cine lens that are devoid of fancy technology. The art of photography and movie making are most satisfying when you've compiled and constructed your masterpiece relying solely upon your own talents and learnings. You won't regret buying a camera like this if you are serious hobbyist who is committed to the art. But if you are just buying it thinking that the camera makes the photographer, go with something a whole lot less sophisticated, and you'll be surprised how little you have to pay to get a good point and shoot camera with beautiful pics. ... show more

  • Awesome camera!
Style: R5 C Body Only
Love the ability to record in 8K, although I haven't done much of that, but it will allow me to zoom-into areas of the video with better quality in my edited rendered output when doing medical videos. Will work with my EF series lenses with RF-EF adapter, so I don't have to re-purchase new lenses.

  • Incredible quality and power in a very small package.
Style: R5 C Body Only
I am a long time Canon user. Any time I stray, I always come back to those gorgeous Canon colors. I create video professionally, and own a lot of industry leading equipment. The R5C can hang with the best of them, at a fraction of the price and size. The era of heavy camera builds may be drawing to a close. We shall see. Sure, those big cameras impress clients, and stroke egos, but the image quality on smaller packages is catching up fast. Also, if you're like me and have assignments where you need to capture top quality video and photos, this is the package for you, especially if you travel frequently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this camera. ... show more

  • Camera overheating issue
Style: R5 C Body Only
This camera overheats very quickly specially when filming with dual fisheye lens. I had so many unexpected shutdowns while filming. Very unreliable.

  • A Powerful Tool with a Few Caveats
Style: R5 C Body Only
The Canon R5C is an incredible camera with impressive capabilities, particularly suited for professional use. However, it comes at a steep price, and for what it offers, it may feel somewhat overpriced—especially for hobbyists or casual users. While I’m overall satisfied with its performance in desert conditions for both photography and cinematography, I’ve become seriously dissatisfied with the battery life. Either I got a bad batch, or the batteries just drain within minutes of use. It’s absolutely ridiculous and backwards for a camera of this calibre and cost. Functionality and ease of use are where the R5C shines, but it doesn’t quite match Sony’s mirrorless line in low-light performance or battery longevity. If those are top priorities, a Sony might be the better choice. That said, for those seeking versatility and cinema-quality video within the Canon ecosystem, the R5C still has strong points—if you can work around the severe battery limitations. ... show more
