Absolutely love this. Looks like an original stereo in my Mazda 3 2012. Wireless Android Auto is so useful (when it connects). MAJOR Issues: 1. Internal mic is not good. People on the other end are not able to hear me well. 2. Included External mic is not good either. I tried keep it on steering, on the visor, on A-pillar. It's better than internal mic, but still not good enough. People on the other end complain. 3. The automatic connection of wireless android auto doesn't always work. It's set to auto-connect in settings. When I enter the car, it changes to "Connecting.." and then sometimes it does connect, and then sometimes "Connecting.." changes to "Waiting.." and it remains stuck there. I have to restart the unit to make it connect again. Wired android auto has similar issues after you connect the cable (but I don't use it as much so I don't care about that). Overall still a huge win. Things I like and minor issues: 1. Fits perfectly. Looks original. 2. Android Auto is life saver. No more mounting my phone on the car. Enter the car, and no need to take your phone out. It auto-connect (70% of the time). 3. Included Backup cam is nice. Not the best quality, but does the job and that's what matters. There cable on the included cam could be longer. I had to buy extra cables to wire in with my brake lights. 4. Wish: If Posi-tap connectors were included, it would be easier to tap the brake light. The included wires are not enough. You need to buy some sort of tapping connector separately. 5. Include dashcam is nice. Again, quality is poor, but does the job. ... show more

    • Great Carplay Unit for Mazda 3. Customization Hints.
This is a great upgrade to get CarPlay working. I replaced a factory, non-Bose, unit on a 2012 SkyActiv Mazda 3. The unit works well as is, but being Android, Its also very customizable if that's your thing. Pros: +Installation. The harnesses are plug and play (no splicing). Watch Eonon's youtube +Big Screen. 9" compared to a standard double-din 7" +Built in CarPlay +Volume, Forward/Back, and Mode buttons on steering wheel controls work +DSP. Don't know what it is, but there's a lot of sound customization options +Price. Much cheaper than getting a head unit and all the wiring harnesses/adapters. Cons: -Slow processor. Most apps will run really poorly. (using CarPlay makes that a non-issue) -Screen auto-dims with headlights, but even at minimum brightness, it was still to bright at night for me (See hints) Neutral -The steering wheel control for the phone doesn't work. Its how Mazda wired the car, and this is a common issue with any aftermarket head unit. You can get around this, but its a lot of work, and I recommend only doing it if annoys you... (see the end of the review) ::Installation:: -Follow the Eonon youtube video -You don't need to drill the glove box. I ran my wire through the passenger foot well, coming out around the passenger seat. -The unit does have a built-in mic, but it doesn't pick up sound well, especially when the car is on. Use the included external mic. (I bought a mic with a clip on it and clipped it to the A-pillar) ::Initial Configuration:: -Change the following things in the HMI settings menu (password 5802) --Swap Forward/Backward steering wheel controls under CANBUS (see Jordan's review) --For the Radio, set to USA1 to improve reception, set RDS AF ON to get radio station text. --Making changes in the HMI menu does a factory reset which resets BT and Radio presets. -To further dim screen at night, use a screen dimmer app. I used Lux Light (with the stock launcher) ::Advanced:: -I replaced the launcher with Nova Launcher (the stock launcher is non-configurable). The Applications (for CarPlay, Radio, etc.) won't show up when you switch launchers... However, you can use the Nova Launcher Activity widget or Quickshortcutmaker to recreate them. Also, Screen Filter works better than Lux Lite because you can create widgets to set dimming levels -"Gizmoman" figured it out on an old model, "GA5163F", how to re-enable the steering wheel controls for the phone! You'll have to remove the full glove box to tap a wire from the factory bluetooth module harness and then wire it to the SW2 slot on the head unit. (Leave the BT module harness unplugged or else the hangup button won't work). After that, to get the SWC menu to show up on the head unit, enable SWC in the Other Settings portion of the HMI menu. 2/7/2021 Updates: -Press Power for a couple seconds to turn off the screen -Although the screen seems very durable, I installed a tempered glass screen protector. It took a lot of searching to find one, look for these dimensions '229*129*217mm' -If CarPlay starts acting up, your cable is likely going bad. I purchased this product back in March 2023 so I’ve had the radio for long enough to write my review. I installed it myself, it was easy but it was my first time doing such a thing. Although it’s plug and play, it took me about an hour to figure it all out. Anyone who’s done work on their vehicle and knows plug and play would take much less of a time to install. The Apple CarPlay works excellent. I connect without wire so there’s a small lag but nothing bad. I absolutely love this product. It’s easy to use and easy to understand. Radio sounds excellent and I can tune the bass, tremble and other settings. It sounds great! That could be attributed to the stock sound system of my Mazda 2012. Only downer is sometimes the radio reboots itself randomly. You have to wait or see if shutting it down and opening it back up helps, it doesn’t always but it takes maybe 3-4 mins to boot back up. Was relatively easy to install despite no included instructions. Fit and finish look like OEM. Android auto works great in wireless and wired modes, and the unit itself is quick to respond and boot up. Despite the picture showing a backup camera, mine did not come with one.
