  • EMG Greatness!
I purchased the EMG H4 to put in my Jackson PS4 Performer that I bought in 2001. I never cared for the stock Jackson pickups, and before the EMG I had a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge. I can honestly say that this guitar has never sounded as good as it does now. The H4 is a passive pickup and comes with a jack, wiring harnesses, tone and volume knob using EMG's proprietary wiring hook-ups, no soldering necessary. I still need to get the mid and neck pickups along with a switch, but will do that over time. I get an amazing sound from it, and it really does give new life to an old guitar. I love it. ... show more

  • It's pretty good.
I put a SD invader in my Les Paul and suddenly the Jackson was not doing it for me anymore, not wanting them both the same I went with this EMG. Supposed to be their hottest passive pup. So in it goes, first I bypassed putting the supplied pots in and just spliced it in the one I took out and I really didn't think it sounded that good. So I went back in and did the pots also. It's not as easy when you're not installing 2 at a time cause they don't put using only replacing one in a 2 pup system in the directions. But I got it in and I think it sounds better now. Not quite as mean as the invader though. But I like it. ... show more

  • Great pickup! Easy install
This pickup was amazing and far better than I expected. I woke up this morning and went to check the mail and suprisingly it was there, considering the fact that I ordered it 3 days ago! The package was very nice and organized and emg even threw in a couple of stickers! I am a teenager who had no experience in changing pickups prior to today and I found it extremely easy to install these. The instructions and diagrams are easily read and have 3 to 4 scenarios to match your guitar setup. The only problem I had was some feedback on my amp and that was my fault for not installing the ground wire correctly, but other than that all was smooth! I highly recommend this pickup to anybody who wants a nice metal sound for a very cheap price! ... show more

  • Probably the best passive I've used
I bought this for a build and it installed super easy! No soldering whatsoever. I installed for use with only a volume pot, and the directions claimed that I may need to solder in 1 spot for the input jack, but I actually fit it on the input jack without any soldering. That's the best part of these new EMG's, no soldering! I find this to be the best passive EMG pickup before the active series (that's if your into those). It's just heavy dark lows that really rip with heavy distortion. They are relatively cheap too, a great alternative to active. ... show more

  • The mistake that redeemed itself
One day I was just browsing the emg pickups, and mistakenly ordered this with Amazon's one click buy function. It was something I had wanted for a cheap guitar that I liked to play, but didn't think I needed it then. I was surprised when it showed up 3 days later, after thinking I only looked at it online. While it may have been ordered by mistake, I am glad I decided to keep it. Up until this pickup I had never done any work on a guitars internal workings and was nervous about doing so. But let me tell you, EMG makes installing these extremely easy, especially if you have a guitar with only one pickup. Their solder free installation is so easy and effective. They have diagrams to show the the setups for multiple scenarios. I was able to install the pickup in 30 minutes (would have been less but I had to modify the guitar a little to fit it), and it worked without any problems and made my cheap guitar sound much better. Not to mention I love looks of the emg pickups, and goes well with my all black guitar. I am extremely satisfied with my mistake, and will be buying more EMG pickups in the future. ... show more

  • Hope it works
Haven't hooked it up yet but I got a used pup , missing wires and missing pots . I dont use a tone pot but I would be upset if I needed one . Missing ground wire as well. We will see if it works and go from there

  • Achieving that metal tone I was looking for
Couldn't be happier. I installed on in the bridge of my Ibanez 450DX that I picked up a few months ago. I noticed an immediate improvement towards the tone that I've been trying to achieve. I considered putting an H4A in the neck but realized that I've rarely switch to middle or neck pickups. Perhaps in the future I will. Since I wanted to use my stock switch and 500k pots, I had to solder the wires directly to my switch. It was a little intimidating because a wiring diagram for the 450DX is no where to be found online. I think that in the future, I might just toss a H4A in the neck, switch out to the EMG pots and buy a 3 way switch to tie all together. My center single coil center pup will just be used for aesthetics. If you play metal and wish to switch out your old passive pups then the H4 is definitely worth a try. If you're worried about having enough room for a battery like I was, this passive pickup might be the right choice for you. ... show more

  • wrong wiring kit included
great pickups when they work. the most recent one I ordered came with the wrong wiring kit(active instead of passive kit) so it had to be returned. just doesn't work without the right wires.
