  • Nice design and easy to set up
Size: Up to 300 Sq. Ft. Style: Cool Only
Very nice design and seems to work well. Simple to set up. Quiet? No, it’s not quiet. I use headphones to watch TV while it’s running. It is quiet enough to sleep and provides good background 'white' noise. The compressor does not grind, it's hums louder than the fan, but it's still just a hum. I have to update! It has been working great. It is actually a lot quieter than another brand I have (but I still can't say it's 'quiet'). In fairness the other one is 14000 BTU, but this Emerson seems to do as well cooling as the other even though it's only rated for 150 sq ft. My bedroom suite must be about 350 sq feet and the Emerson performs very well. I've also enjoyed discovering a couple other features. It has sleep mode as well as eco mode. Eco mode seems to turn it on and off, not just the fan, but the entire ac. That's a good thing. Others leave the fan running continuously and just turns the compressor on and off. The sleep mode is nice. It dims the light and shuts it down after a long period cool temps. It works so you can go to sleep with the ac on, but let it shut down when the nighttime temps are cool enough. I'm no an Emerson employee and I have no expertise in HVAC, so you'd have to verify any of my comments by reading the instructions. All I can say is that over the last two months, I've become very pleased with this purchase and would do it again. If I replace the 14000 BTU unit (other brand) I will buy an Emerson Quiet Kool model. ... show more

  • Very quiet even on max fan. Zero rumble. Easy setup. Great cooling
Size: Up to 300 Sq. Ft. Style: Cool Only
This A/C is a keeper. Emerson did everything right. The unit is far quieter than any of the three window units I previously used, all with the same capacity or less. It is easy to install and you do not need any tools whatsoever. TIP: When you attach the flexible hose to the connectors, you screw them in counter-clockwise. They didn't bother to tell you that in the manual. When the unit turns on there is no loud "thunk" when the compressor starts. It has two quiet squirrel cage fans- one to deliver the cool air and one to exhaust the hot air. Both are reasonably quiet and a measurement (with an uncalibrated tool) shows a reading of 58db six feet away with the unit on high cool. This does not bother me at all The night cool setting is definitely quieter. A word about cooling capacity. I use this unit to cool a 2-story house with open space between floors (loft style). It has 3 bedrooms, an LR, dining room, kitchen and 1 bathroom. If you look at the specs, you will conclude that this unit is way undersized. It isn't. Some people worry about coming home to a hot house and they want to turn the A/C on and within 15 minutes the house is cool. If you are one of these people, buy a much bigger unit. But, what happens is that the unit turns OFF pretty quickly after bringing the temp down, and when it is off it is not dehumidifying. Humidity is a big part of how cool you feel. In my case I work from home. I leave the A/C running so it is both cooling and dehumidifying much of the day. If it is 90 degrees outside, it will be no more than 75 inside with low humidity. To me, this is very comfortable. In addition I am saving money compared to the purchase cost and running cost of larger units which could bring the temp much lower on the same day. Actually, because a larger unit stops dehumidifying, it has to bring the temp lower so you feel the same comfort level. Some people worry about this unit unit bringing in warm outside air because it is a single hose unit. If you use the unit in a small closed room with a door shut you will feel air coming in from under the door. If you use the unit in a large room or an open area, as I do, you won't notice a thing. Air intrudes into most homes fairly easily anyway. Try a test. Close all doors and windows in your house and turn on the kitchen fan. Bet you can't tell where air is coming in! Bottom line, I am highly satisfied with this unit and would not hesitate to buy one again. ... show more

  • Mostly quiet, easy to install, nice remote - and COOL
Size: Up to 450 Sq. Ft. Style: Cool Only
I bought the 12,000 BTU version for a large master bedroom. I have the windows that slide from the right to the left to open them. The included window kit and hose worked perfectly and I did not find them hard to install at all. It is lot a "really long" exhaust hose, so if you want this unit say 10 feet away from the window then you will have to buy a longer hose separately. - Noise. When I say "mostly quiet" what I refer to is the fact that when in "fan" mode this unit is the quietest fan inside of an AC unit that I have ever heard. It is SUPER quiet and I have to leave it on the "high" setting just to get enough white noise that we need for sleeping. When the compressor turns on to cool the room, it is a SIGNIFICANT noise "difference" because the fan mode is SO quiet. So, what I am saying is that with the compressor on, this unit has a reasonable and expected noise level, especially for 12,000 BTUs and is comparable to other brands I have in other rooms in my house. But the dramatic "drop" or "rise" in noise level between the very quiet fan and the "normal" noise of a compressor plus fan cooling has taken some getting used to when sleeping. Also, for the same reason, I cannot use the "Eco" mode at night. The difference between dead silence and full compressor cooling is too great (such that it wakes me up every time it either turns on or off in Eco mode.) So Eco mode is great during the day or evening, but I have to go to normal "Cool" mode at night so that the unit never turns actually all the way off. None of this deducts from my rating because it is "Cool and Quiet" as named in my opinion. - As far as cooling, this thing cools off my 200 sq feet bedroom plus bathroom area perfectly. LOTS of cold air blows out of this bad boy when in "Cool" mode and high fan. It has a cool motorized louver setting that creates varying breeze too. - The remote is very nice and easy to use. The only thing that would make it better is if it had dimly lit button and screen for use in total darkness. - The only reason that I'm even deducting one star is because of the button controls on top of the AC itself. When the bedroom lights are on, no problem. But if the lights are off and you don't want to disturb a sleeping spouse in the room, it is impossible to see any of them. They should make an option to dimly light those controls and the temp screen at night. Even give it a "Off, Low, Med, High" button lighting setting. The only way to change any control even in a dimply let room is to either turn on a light, or shine a flashlight at it. However, ironically the temperature setting is so brightly lit that it will burn a whole in the atmosphere. So people in space can see that I have it set on "70" but no one can change that fact without turning on a light. - So hey, 5 stars means "absolutely perfect" in my book, so some may say "nit-pickey" stuff, but that's how it is. OVERALL I would highly recommend this AC unit. ... show more
