We’ve been in the market for these types of lights for several purposes. First, for power outages (we have our fair share of these living in a semi-rural area and when the wind blows strong…well, we know to get our emergency supplies out); our power outages generally last 4 hours but have lasted much longer including in the night. Second, we needed something for our Bug Out Bags that allows us to not rely on flashlights that can get cumbersome and sometimes are just not bright enough. Lastly, for use in recreational camping. There are now so many on the market and we all know the commercial that promotes a different brand but those are quite a bit more expensive. I was happy to find this deal on Amazon and getting 2 for $7.95 was an amazing deal! I read the reviews on many different brands and was quite impressed with the reviews I saw here and relied on them when deciding to purchase this brand. Got them today; put in the 3 required batteries and opened them up to find a light filled room (room size is approx 13 x 18). These have incredible light output which makes them perfect for all our needs. For those thinking of using for hiking/camping, they weigh approx 1 pound WITH the batteries installed. In height they are the same as a pint size mason canning jar without the lid. There is absolutely no reason to be in a dark tent again if you simply hang this lantern up inside. No dark corners, you know where everything is. In fact, I'd guess having this lantern only half opened would be sufficient to effectively light up a large tent. It would also be awesome to carry with you on your trips to the outhouse (or natures hidden spots when an outhouse is not available) to keep you safe from dips or holes in the ground where you walk. Or even keep you from walking into a branch that's in your path and poking your eye out or leaving your face and body scratched up like you got attacked from some angry animal! We all know what it's like camping out in nature...having a bright lantern that literally lights up your path is a life-saver! We have cats…so when our power goes out, we can’t light candles in rooms where we are not physically present (or even handy on a tabletop where we are physically present!) due to the fear of the cats getting a little too curious and them getting burned or tipping it over and starting a house fire. And flashlights only offer directed light; not an optimal solution when you need full light. For those who believe price dictates quality, please let me assure you these are well worth what we paid. I truly believe EVERY house should have at least one of these in their home as emergency light when the electricity goes out (which we all know happens often in rural America). I highly recommend these to anybody and hope others can see what an excellent value they are.

I purchased these little lanterns for my two sons, who love to "camp" in their bedrooms under their beds or in hastily made forts. They were using two big clunky lanterns, which seem to be the typical size for camping lanterns, that just seemed so big for my 3 year old! I saw these little lanterns on Amazon.com & they were so reasonably priced, that I decided to give them a try. They arrived quickly & after 3 AA batteries in each, they were ready to go! They give off a lot of bright light for such small lanterns! I love that they collapse down and automatically turn off when closed, so no tricky buttons for my 3 year old to deal with. I was afraid that somebody would get their fingers pinched when closing the lanterns, but we have had these for 2 weeks already & no accidents yet. :) I loved these lanterns so much that I ordered a second set! Now each family member has one in their room in case of a power outage. The little wire handles on each side can fold up, so that the lantern can hang on a hook or be easily carried around. When the lantern is closed, the little arms fold down on each side to make for easy packing/storing. When fully opened with handles up, the lantern stands about 10" high. When shut with handles folded down, it stands about 5" high. It is about as big around as a can of beer? Well, maybe a tad wider than a beer can....

At first this item worked. It only has 3 pods like pictured, instead of 12 like described. That aside I put my seeds in and turned it on. After a few days I noticed the light would shut off at random times. (Times when the program should be on) I would need to unplug the light at the base and plug it back in to get the light to come back on. Do not buy this expecting to set and forget. I am having to unplug it several times per day. There is no way to contact the seller directly.

Only bad part was the listing stated AAA batteries. I was lucky and scrolled down to see a review that corrected this. So I ordered the right ones. It takes AA and not AAA. That said they worked great! I am using then in my vendor tent for a few shows I do that are outside at night, this last one was a ren faire, they lit up my 10x 10 nicely. I ordered four of them, hung them from the tent frame and could see great, I loved that they were just bright enough! Not blinding, they didn't take away for the show theme at all, they looked the part and worked great. I pulled the batteries and I'll be using them again in 6 weeks at the next night time show I have lined up.

Very good quality lamps which are very bright. I would say that one lamp for a power outage is enough as it'll cover the largest of the rooms. It's too bright for camping but that's where the ability to close the lamp to only allow the required amount of light to escape. On partially closing, I noticed that the leds that are not exposed any more don't shut off - not a big deal, but you are not saving battery when the lamp is not being used at full lumen capacity. Lamps are built well. I also had an issue with the original - the seller sent a replacement promptly and with minimal effort. A for customer service, which I was pleasantly surprised by as I was buying one of the lesser known and lesser reviewed options. Haven't used these yet for an extended period of time, so I cannot comment on the battery life. Use 3 AA batteries. Cons compared to competition: 1. Probably won't survive a fall. There are costlier options available that have rubber housing and will handle falls better 2. No flashlight. Some of the competition has a flashlight feature, although those are priced higher Above cos don't matter to me much as I was looking for the most price effective option. If I end up camping (and dealing with power outages) more than once every year and these don't hold up well, then I'll look for alternatives. For now, these are the best bang for the buck. Overall, very satisfied.
