With the arrival of an additional feral cat during the coldest part of this winter, we put out a cardboard box (which we insulated) to see if she would sleep there. Now a couple of months later, she comes back every day so we decided to upgrade her house. And that may have been a mistake as she loves her new dwelling! The Dopliv dog house / cat house is extremely easy to assemble thanks to the easily understood instructions with excellent diagrams. To me it seems probable that they were written by someone who actually assembled & reassembled the house and who could accurately describe the process. The walls and roof appear to be the same tent material used in full sized people tents. The flooring material is rugged enough for a small dog or cat, and is supported a few inches above the ground to help keep the sleeping surface dry in wet weather. With the oversized (at least for a cat) entrance, the house should remain cool in the summer and the feral cat has enjoyed it in the winter.

I'd love to tame him and give him a real home but he's as wild as they come (and I don't think he's ever really forgiven me for trapping him and fixing him!) I have a heated food station and house for him but only uses his house in the winter. We've now entered the rainy season for my region and we'll see a lot of rain over the next six+ weeks. He hates the rain but he won't use the house unless it's freezing. For rain, he usually camps out under a patio table so he's a little sheltered but he still gets drips, splashes and sideways rain when it's windy. I've tried a few different ways to shelter him under his table but nothing has worked, he gets spooked. I saw this elevated dog/cat house and I thought it looked perfect for our situation. He really doesn't like to be "inside" and I thought the open design of this house may put him more at ease while also giving him a bit more cover from the rain. This is basically a platform bed with a tent on top, it's a simple but clever design. The front of the tent is wide open so it won't keep an animal completely dry and the house won't work to keep them warm in the winter. It's really not a true dog/cat house because there's no insulation, the tent is thin and drafty and the doorway is too big to retain any heat. But it's a good temporary house for warmer months. The tent can provide a little shade on a sunny day or it can act as a wind breaker for a too breezy afternoon. I think this would be a cozy nap area for indoors use too. Just throw a blanket down on the bed and any cat or small dog has a ready made fort, there's even rubber caps on the feet to protect wood floors! You could also take this along on a camping or RV trip, it's small and lightweight. I assembled this bed by myself and had no problems. There's instructions to follow, complete with diagrams to reference. They are printed on a too small pamphlet, it could definitely be bigger, but the instructions are pretty straightforward. You basically build the platform bed then the frame for the tent on top, then fit the tent fabric over the frame and use the elastic bands to anchor it to the legs. It took me about 20 minutes, start to finish. The elevated bed is 20x20 and with the tent top the house is 28 inches tall. Just keep in mind this house is ideal for a small breed dog or a cat. I have a 90 pound dog that could easily knock this house over if he wanted to, so make sure you're ordering the right size for your dog. As far as the construction, it's a good quality product. The stitching on the fabrics is good, no loose seams or flaws. The tent frame is built with the same metal pipes as the bed frame which is far sturdier than tent poles. The joints come together well and should hold up fine for a small animal. I liked that there aren't any screws required. This bed uses 3 pronged plastic hubs to connect the corners, that made it much easier to assemble than typical platform frames. It will wear better outdoors than screws that could rust and you could also take it apart easier if want to take it along for a trip. The fabric on the bed is a sturdy blend that should hold up well against pet nails, the material is thick. The tent top is made from the waterproof outdoor material a lot of people tents are made from, the manufacturer doesn't specify the blend but it's some sort of polyester/nylon. The material is thin but durable, it will block the sun and wind a bit, but it is a lightweight cover. The only minor complaint I have is that the tent walls billow a bit, they don't hold much tension. I wish the fabric was a little thicker and hugged the frame a bit more around the base, but it's not a deal breaker. I used a spray bottle to wet the surface of the tent down and all the water beaded up appropriately. Overall it seems like a nice and functional house for play time, nap time or an afternoon on the patio. I put my house outside a few days ago and so far the cat isn't interested, but we've had no rain and ferals are known to take some time before they'll investigate a new dwelling. I have it nestled in an area where it shouldn't get hammered by high winds but I did anchor two of the legs to a patio table with some zip ties. The house is lightweight enough that if your area is prone to high winds or strong gusts, it would need to be secured to the ground, a fence or some nearby structure. Overall, I'm happy with this little house. I think the quality is fair for the value. I would order it again and do recommend it to others.

I ordered the size small and it stands 29 ½ inches tall which is quite high for a small dog tent. Although, I do have three dogs, I wanted this dog tent to feed a stray cat that visits my house. Since this tent is elevated and has a “roof”, I thought this would be ideal for feeding a stray cat. I also covered the tent with a very heavy doormat (rubber side up) and put cinderblocks in each side to keep it in place on windy days. In regard to the assembly of this tent, I did think the top portion was a little tricky as the directions are in a very tiny print which made it hard to read. Other than that, I didn’t have any issues with this tent.

The material that makes up the floor is thick and bears weight well; the tent material is, well, tent material! It has to stretch a bit while being affixed to the frame and showed no signs of tearing at the seams or in the fabric itself. We plan to use it indoors; outdoors it would block the sun well without creating total darkness inside, but because it is closed on three sides, air will not circulate so it would get stuffy on a warmer day.
