At the time of writing, every bad review stating they received the wrong item show they ordered the the ELX200 12s. That is the passive model. The ELX200 12sp is the powered model. Maybe there was an error on the listing before, but if there was, there doesn't seem to be anl listing error currently. I ordered the passive 12s model expecting the passive subwoofer, and got the correct passive 12s model. This subwoofer sounds amazing. It has an incredibly even frequency response. Properly placed, or properly aligned if multiple are used, and you'll be impressed. It has plenty of volume for my needs. I heard no air movement, no enclosure resonance, no sloppy transient smearing, just transparent and incredibly defined bass. I usually like smaller subwoofers for their definition, and the 12" passive gets considerably lower than most others do. That depth for me (42hz at -3db) makes a big difference, and is about as low as any live system needs. The trade off is volume, 1db less sensitive than it's 18" brother isn't much. But 4db less on it's max spl is a good bit. However. I'm never going to be running this maxed. It's going to have plenty of headroom for my needs, and should able to provide over 90dB SPL peaks (light to medium hearing damaging levels) at 30ft, if my math is right. Basically is gets plenty loud for most uses. If it doesn't get loud enough for you, get the 18" that doesn't hit 40hz quite as well, or get more of either and align them properly. I love the weight of this thing. It'll be much safer transporting than my older one. The size is impressively compact. The build is top notch EV quality. These might have some competitors that get louder in this price range (I'm guessing), but EV is one of the best in sound quality and reliability. Highly recommended. ... show more

Bad units!! I had three of them shipped to my home. Two had dented grills and cabinets dinged up the third has something clunking inside! I don’t know if something wrong with the manufacturer but really disappointing Also Amazon sends me a email implying I abused the product and not shipping back in original packaging I have received items that had evidence of used and have sent back for that reason ... show more

    • Very good, and digs deep. I purchased a pair of these ELX200-12S 12" Passive Subwoofers.

The Electro-Voice ELX200-12S subwoofer REQUIRES AN EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER. For the price, you get a lot of subwoofer that digs real deep. This subwoofer is 400 watts RMS / 1600 Watts Peak. If this subwoofer was an "ACTIVE" subwoofer w/DSP the price would have been double than what's advertised. The cost effective approach is to get an Electro-Voice ELX200-12S subwoofer paired with a Crown 1502 amplifier setup in bridged mode. However, I choose to use a Crown 2502 setup in a dual channel configuration to support 2 Electro-Voice ELX200-12S subwoofers. After having this setup for a few years now, I am still 100% satisfied with the Electro-Voice ELX200-12S subwoofers. Very reliable, and performs! ... show more

This is a very well balance sub, very crisp, good punch, not mushy and overly represented. If you like mushy exaggerated super punch subs this is not for you as it is a very accurate imaging sub that provides full bass. I'm driving the two I bought with a Yamaha CX-A5100 and a Crown XLS-2502 (440w/ch RMS 8 ohms load LP'd at 250Hz cutoff) and it drives these with no problems, the pre-amp isn't bridged, 1 amp drives both subs. A XLS-1502 in bridged mode at 1050w @8 ohms would drive one easily as well, but at much higher distortion. ... show more
