This is Electro-Voice's purpose built mic shock mount for the broadcast industry standard RE20 microphone. It is simple to assemble and makes hanging your RE20 from a boom effortless. It adjusts easily and is visibly attractive. I know there are some complaints about this shock mount, mostly from people that have purchased an RE20 microphone and feel like they are getting taken for a ride for this shock mount as it's over $100. For me, it is simply the cost of doing business. I already owned an RE20 and had used other shock mounts on it prior to obtaining the factory 309A. The factory shock mount is much better suited and more easily adjusted then my prior mounts. If you want to have the mic that is most widely used by broadcast professional, you have to expect for it to cost something. I see the RE20 marketed with the 309A mount as a package deal, so there is no illusion that you are paying for the shock mount and that it does not come from with the mount. The Electro-Voice 309A is well made, easy to assemble, holds the microphone securely, and is fully adjustable left, right, up, and down. Be sure to watch: "Assembling the Electro-Voice 309A" on YouTube before trying to assemble the cage around the microphone.

This EV 309A shock mount gets the job done as it is sturdy and can hold the weight of the big RE20 and RE320, however it is a space hog compared to Koolertron Universal 50mm shock mount, which is a lot smaller and gets the job done for $80 less. The pros for the EV309A is that is made from quality medal, tightens down securely and is name branded...but it takes up a lot of broadcast desk space. ... show more

    • Can't get much better than this!
This is perfect for the Electro-Voice RE20 microphone. It's made for it. Easy to assemble but does not have good enough instructions if challenged by instructions. However, a video on YouTube exists to help out.

The mount fits the EV RE20, RE320 or RE27 perfectly. The issue I have is with the elastic shock mount bands and the mounting nut to the microphone stand. The bands rot within a year. Look it up on the net if you doubt this reviewer. The material that is used cracks and falls apart. The mounting nut to the microphone stand that mounts to the yoke is made from brass and the thumb nut is only holding on by approx. three threads! These microphones cost too much to take a chance of them falling to the floor! There is a company that sells upgraded retrofit parts for the 309A mount correcting design deficiencies in the original design. The company is called "better bands". They sell the following: Specially formulated silicone bands that balances strength and stretch and bands made with nearly double the material of OEM bands, with none of the typical weak points and they last much longer. Better Nuts are made of 100% steel, stronger than the OEM’s brass nuts. With more threads and a hex design to tighten it securely to your boom, and an Allen bolt with a thumb cap to ensure a tight fit that won't strip like the OEM part. A classic. Every RE20 could benefit from it! If you can’t afford this one, get the non-shock version. A knockoff shockmount for this mic would be a waste IMO.

    • Perfect Shock Mount for RE320
I decided to buy the new RE320 instead of the RE20. You are going to get more for your money with virtually the same quality by buying the RE320 and the shock mount. If you are looking to save a little money, I would suggest what I did. Shock mount works great. It was my first shock mount, so I was a little slow to figure it out (no directions), but I came around quickly. It fits the RE320 perfectly and mounts to my Heil PL-2T.
