We got this for a family member who was fine once standing but was fighting the last few inches of getting up out of a low sofa. The alternative was replacing perfectly good furniture with a giant lift recliner, which nobody wanted. This solved it for a fraction of the price. It sits on the existing seat, and a button on the remote inflates it slowly and steadily until you are basically standing. The lift is gentle, not a launch. That was my worry going in and it turned out to be unfounded. Speed is very manageable and you can stop partway. At 17 by 17 inches it fits a normal chair or sofa cushion without hanging off, and the 220 pound capacity covers most people. Two things to know. It is portable but it needs an outlet, so plan for that. And it assists, it does not lift someone who cannot bear weight at all. Restored a lot of independence for a small price.

The Vive inflatable seat assist is a gentle way to provide lift and momentum for folks with difficulty getting up from a seated position. It doesn't stand a person all the way up, but does provide enough angled lift that transfers from one seated position/place to another is a lot easier and less painful. It moves a lot like the back of a recliner does; evenly, slowly, and gently. It never feels rushed or risky. This device does require an outlet to plug the control box into, and then the cushion lift must be plugged into that. Folks with visual impairments, arthritic hands, or upper body mobility issues may find plugging the cushion into the control box difficult. The control box isn't small, and may be heavy and/or ungainly if you need something totally portable. This is ideal for keeping in one specific place and using it there. I tried using this device positioned behind my back and can attest that it would've been FANTASTIC during my mastectomy recovery period, helping me to sit upright without pulling on my tender incision sites, drains, or healing muscles. I can see it being equally useful for other post-op recoveries, like post C-section, for example. Overall this is a sturdy, practical way to help anyone with mobility issues. It works best in a dedicated spot as it's not easily portable. In my opinion it's expensive, but a durable and worthwhile investment if you're going to need this help long term.

Easy to use. Simply use the remote, and it slowly inflates, giving you a firm upward push rather than an abrupt jolt. I used it on the sofa, and while it was comfy, over the years it developed a large dip that whenever I would sit on it I would sink down to the frame and would require much exertion to get back up; however, this has removed that issue entirely since the lift is doing the majority of the work. The remote itself consists only of buttons, with no confusing programming required; just a simple press and you're good to go. Deflating is equally easy. Workhorse so far, with no real concerns or dislikes, but it has been fantastic and taken some of the struggle out of getting up from a sinking sofa.
