I live nomadically 6 months out of the year and custom built a trailer and decided I'm tired of the propane water heaters so I gave this a try. It works great for the money and I run it on my 3000 watt power inverter installed with the switch so I turn it on about a half an hour before I take a shower and it heats the water up just fine for a short shower and with a thousand watts of solar panel and 600 amp hours of battery I still have plenty left to get me through the night with my refrigerator the television and running the microwave a couple times it's a lot more efficient than I expected

This Electric Mini Tank Water Heater comes with a limited “Installation Manual”, but no Operating or Programming Instructions. To make matters even more fun, the water heater shipped to us had a Spanish Display! First, about those installation instructions. They appear to have been created for a European or Asian market, as they reference 220 volt power. But the plug on the heater is a standard U.S. configured 3-prong 120 volt plug. Another reviewer had noted that, but I still thought, I can handle that. In fact, it does function very effectively on 120 v power. Check the ends of the inlet and outlet pipe. If they have a rust buildup, or scale on the threads, like mine did, this should all be wire brushed off before wrapping Teflon tape around the pipe. Turning a fitting onto the pipe with scale or rust on it will be like having sand in the joint, and it will shred the Teflon tape, assuring that the joint will leak. (Guess how I learned?) Because the pipe threads are cut to the DIN(15) standard, instead of NPT shape, there is no taper to the joint, and simply turning it on further will not correct a leaky fitting. Be warned, however, the small component, consisting of a one-way check valve and a pressure-relief safety vent, is a failure from the get go. See my photo and sketch of the device, and simply note that if you include this in your installation, any water vented through the relief valve [ "C" in my sketch] will drip out at the shaft opening for the handle, [ "E" in sketch ] instead of flowing through the provided hose. The sketch shows why. I ended up deleting both the relief valve on the water inlet side, and the component that I took to be a galvanic isolator on the outlet pipe, and substituting in their places two 1/2" PVC 90° elbows, female NPT on one side, male NPT on the other. These provide perfect galvanic isolation, and a more effective transition from the DIN(15) threads on the pipes on the heater to the NPT connections of the hoses you need to tie to your domestic water system. If your home has an expansion tank above the main water heater – typically a metal cylinder of about 2.5 gallons capacity – that protects all fixtures in your home from thermal pressure buildup—the relief valve is redundant. OK, moving on to controlling the installed Water Heater. If you are in the U.S., and don’t read Spanish any better than I do, and you are lucky, your Display is labeled in English! I did persuade the seller to provide me a photo of the English display, which includes the text I will reference in what follows. I have included a photo of the Display with this review. As noted, it differs from the pictures in the listing, so who knows? After filling the tank with water, plug in the power cord. The display will light up, and beep to indicate it is ready to be programmed. Most of the display is lighted with a very pale turquoise glow, but there are some other colors here, too. And the meanings of some of the text may not be obvious. Temperatures display in Centigrade – there is no Fahrenheit option. Times will be displayed in a 24-hour mode. The four flat bars at the bottom of the display provide a general sense of how high a temperature the heater has been set for. ① SWITCHGEAR At the right side, is a RED Power-On, Power-Off symbol and the accompanying label, “Switchgear”. This is a pressure sensitive toggle switch. Pressing this turns “Off” the Display and the heating function. But when you press it again to re-illuminate the display, the Heating Mode ( see item #4, below ) will have selected “Intelligent Heating”. ② CLOCK My first instinct was to set the clock. To do this, use a “slow-press” on the “Time” button near the bottom center of the display. It looks like a round analog clock, with hands indicating 7:00. After holding this in for three to five seconds, the triangular touch pads labeled “UPWARD” and “DOWNGRADE” will begin to flash about once a second. The four-digit time display to the left of the label “CLOCKS” may be adjusted using these two arrows. Note however, the “UPWARD” pad always increments the hour setting, while the “DOWNGRADE” does not reverse that, it only increases minutes. If you overshoot, just cycle through. Holding the touch-pad in will speed the change. ③ TEMPERATURE Kind of the elephant in the room, the big digits at the left edge of the display show the current temperature of stored water. Smaller digits to the right of that indicate the set target temperature. To adjust this target temperature, press the UPWARD arrow to increase the set temp by 5°C, press the DOWNGRADE arrow to reduce it by 5°C. (Note how different this is from setting time.) The lower and upper limits to this are 30°C, and 75°C, and adjustments may only be made in 5 degree increments. (These limits equal 86°F and 167°F. ) Adjusting past these values simply cycles to the opposite limit. As the set temperature changes, the white and red bars under the time display will change. Below 55°C, only white bars are lighted. Above 55°C, you start to see red. Typical domestic hot water temps are 120°F, or about 50°C. With those limits in mind, it is interesting that the photos within the listing show a 'set temperature' of 98 degrees. That's 208 degrees Fahrenheit, just shy of boiling water. But then, text on the display in those photos differs from what I was sent, too, so maybe the cheat-sheet I was sent is outdated? ④ HEATING MODE The full intent of this switch remains a bit of a mystery. It may be helpful to think of it as a “Control Mode” selector. The switch itself is the group of three wavy lines, looking something like “SSS” curves above the label, “Heating Mode”. Pressing it cycles through three illuminated labels, all shown in the accompanying photo, but only one will appear at a time on an active display. These read, “Segmented Heating”, “Intelligent Heating”, and “Heating by Appointment”. Since the cycle of illumination moves right to left, and the “Heating by Appointment” is the mode I am most confident I understand, we’ll deal with that next. So, press the “Heating Mode” switch to light up the Appointment. . . . ⑤ RESERVATION I take this to be establishing a schedule of active, and inactive hours of the day. During what I call active hours, the heater will keep water within a couple degrees of the set temperature. While the water is being heated, the red text “Heater” is displayed. Once the temp reaches its set point, that red text disappears, and you see a green label, “Thermos (bottle)” – yes, that’s what it says, parentheses and all! During the inactive period, the power to the heating element is off. Press the Reservation icon, which looks like a clock with hands indicating 5:00. The label at the far left of the display reading “timed opening” will illuminate, and the UPWARD and DOWNGRADE arrows will be active to set a time to begin the ‘active’ period. (I set ours to 6:00.) After getting the time display you want, press the Reservation icon again, and the “timed out” label will light in place of the “timed opening”. Again, using the UPWARD and DOWNGRADE arrows, adjust Hours and Minutes to set a time for the heater to coast. Selecting the Reservation option also illuminates the Heating by Appointment label. While this is lit, the Clock display cycles through showing the current time, the Opening time or beginning of active operation, and the Out time, or end of scheduled operation. This label must be lit for the selected active and inactive times to be applied. ⑥ INTELLIGENT HEATING There are two ways to select the Intelligent Heating label. Pressing the “SSS” Heating Mode switch repeatedly cycles through the labels at the top of the display, and may be used to select Intelligent Heating; alternatively, pressing the Switchgear icon repeatedly, and turning the whole display off and then back on, will default to the Intelligent Heating mode. In this mode, the active vs inactive periods defined with the Reservation option are ignored. The system simply attempts to hold the water at the set temperature. ⑦ SEGMENTED HEATING When the Segmented Heating label is illuminated, the system appears to me to operate the same as when Intelligent heating has been selected. If the set temp is above the water temp, the heater will come on.

The heater seems to be good to bad they didn't send a book on how to setup the heater nothing tells you how to set the clock or the temperature is only in Celsius also no directions on how to set up the heater and fittings

Well, let's start with the positive. It does heat water. On the negative side, the list is longer. First, none of the connections to this unit are NPT, except the two flex hoses included. Once I figured that out and altered my plumbing plan accordingly I got it installed. Once I filled it, plugged it in and turned it on it was obvious, as shown in the picture, that the setpoint and clock displays were defective and unreadable. One of the main reasons I bought this particular unit was it appeared to be programmable so that the heat could be turned off when not needed. There appear to be three operating modes. Since there were no programming instructions included, I don't know what they do or how to get them to do it. Since I can't set the clock or the heater setpoint, I don't think I could make it happen anyway. Amazon politely sent me a replacement unit. I thought instructions and a working display might be included. There were no instructions and the displays had the same problem as the first unit. I will be returning both and moving on.

The seller\manufacturer does NOT supply a bracket that allow you to hang this heater. Also, no instruction manual to set any of the features.....both are inexpensive to add....
