I was able to put close to 400m of 4mm if i trenched out the rope for the handle bolt. If I could put 1000m of 2.3mm as advertised, I would be surprised. Product shipped with handle bolt upside down as well. With a little bending and tweaking it might serve my needs. I am giving this 4 stars because overall, these reels really impressed me with their quality. There are a couple of features they are lacking that are on other reels, but at this price point, these misssing features are not a showstopper. Pros: Extrememly well built with quality parts and materials. At $50 each, this was a good price. The design worked really well and I was able to roll up 400m meters of 4mm electric poly wire in a matter of minutes. I can't imagine these reels failing due to material or workmanship. I am estimating that these reels should last for 10 years, maybe more, under normal conditions. Cons: 1. The item arrived a day late, which normally would not be a big deal, but I was working on a deadline. Place your order knowing that this item will likely not arrive on time. 2. The crank locking mechanism is not spring loaded so it will not stay locked unless there is tension on the line. 3. The channel guide does not automatically move left to right to keep the line uptake on the reel even. The channel guide is fixed and so you have to watch the reel and make sure the wire is going on evenly. ... show more

    • A game changer for rotational grazing
For several years I've been moving fences around by coiling my polyline on my arm the old-fashioned way. It was good for my arm muscles but really kind of a bummer overall. I wish I'd invested in a crank like this a long time ago to make coiling it up and deploying the poly line much easier. This reel is easy to use, feels pretty solid, and will likely last a long time. I haven't used it enough to see many down sides but I'll update this review if I come across anything major to pass along to other users.     • Great tool
This tool made changing out the old wire for our electric fence so easy (Putting it up the first time took a heck of a lot longer without it because the wire kept getting tangled up ). We have electric fence around our yard to keep the dogs in and had recently gotten new wire and corner brackets and luckily found this before we went to replace them. It easily wound up the old wire when we were taking it down, but there was no way to just take the wire off once we rolled it up. We weren't reusing it anywhere and were just going to store it in case we ever needed it for something but ended up having to unwind it to get it off the reel. Then we had to wind the new wire onto it before we unwound it on the fence line. I was a hassle but still made the job much easier as it kept tension on the wire which kept it from getting tangled up. . I HIGHLY Recommend that they make a way to remove the wound wire from the reel and to put previously wound wire onto it, then it would make things a lot less time-consuming and would honestly make much more sense. ... show more

    • Makes Taking Down Electric Fence Rope/Tape a Breeze!
I was able to take down 800' of the 1/8th inch electric rope (including untangling) in an hour. Most of that time was untangling the rope from the few posts that had been taken down and jumbled together. Just make sure you hold the tension on the rope and it works great! That 3/1 gear ration definitely makes this an improvement. ... show more

We were just in the feed store checking these out for use on our strip grazing program for our cows. We came home and looked on Amazon and saw this one. Decided to give it a try. This is just like the ones we were looking at in the store. There is a plastic guide for the wire to go through which makes rolling the wire up easier. There is a heavy duty hook on the top to hook it onto the fence. The tension lever is great for when your hand slips off or you need to hold tension while you do something else. Easy to just flick it up or down with one finger or thumb to release or put tension on. Take the tension off to roll out the wire and on to reel it in.
