  • Initial Review
Size: 48V 2000W Style: 48V 2000W
The media could not be loaded. I have only received the motor/controller and am in the process of installing this system but it is being put in my own design so it will take a while for a comprehensive review. for now, I thought I would do the review on what I know. The motor and controller came in protective foam wrapping and box adequate for shipping. While there are nicks/scratches on the motor just like the product description states. these are cosmetic and are not going to affect the performance. If it bothers you the motor is nicely polished and a simple buffing can resolve it. I wish they had included mating connectors for everything. These are not STD that I can tell so for my project I will have to cut the ends and remark the cables and would surely void any warranty on the controller. Having mating connectors can prevent that. Once I have my project completed I an probably help supply a schematic that most people may be interested in using. What is odd the brake light and indicator light both show 48V output. That is a high voltage for lights, normal LED/lights for vehicles are 12V so will interesting to see if I can find lights or a way to step that down. Also, it is not clear if that changes to 60V if the SM 48V/60V wire is connected. Also, there is a reversing signal pigtail. Not clear how that is setup, but I assume a simple NO connection will do. I will edit this post as I find out more things, but for now the motor/controller was as expected. EDIT 3/6/2019 Added 2 photos and a video. I am building an Electric mower and using this motor to power. While some will say it is under powered for the job. I intend to show that most electric conversions have been grossly over powering the electric motor. You really do not need that much. First a image of the original mower, had a 18-20hp Twin Cylinder engine that I got after a son drained the oil but had no replacement oil and left with friends. Dad came home and mower yard and burnt engine up. Chassis is in perfect shape. The video shows a test spin, with no load. It was running about 1/4 throttle. As you can see the chain was loose so I did not run it fast. I am working on a chain tension system and better motor mounting. Again, this was only a test. The third picture shows where I made my mistake of only using the bottom mounts, When I put the wheels on the ground the motor and torque literally bent the motor mount. Fixable though. Some points on my setup: 1. I am currently running my mower on (2) 24V - 2ah electric drill batteries connected in series. Once I get the motor mounted and wired I will build a more appropriate battery stack. 2. REVERSE: For reverse all that is needed is to wire a flip switch into the connector. When flipped turning the throttle gives you reverse. It is that simple. That is it for now. Next steps are to look into the braking system and brake lights, ect. Since there are no opposing connectors, I have to replace and rewire all of the connections. Someone asked a question about the throttle graph not working. It DOES. But you have to provide over 42V. If not, it will only display the battery symbol and bottom bar of power. That is the indication that the battery is dead. I am also planning to provide a complete set of plans on using this motor for a conversion if anyone is interested. ... show more

  • Fast, powerful, but the controller gets smoking hot
Size: 48V 2000W Style: 48V 2000W
The motor is great. Barely even gets warm, but the controller seems to be under powered for the motor. I installed this setup on a drift trike (upgraded the Razor Drift). It works really well and has tons of power (i'm 200 pounds). The only issue is that the controller gets so hot after about 20 minutes of use that the wires will melt if I don;t stop and let it cool down. The casing of the controller gets too hot to touch. I've tried replacing the wiring from the motor to the controller, but that doesn't help. The only possible outcome is that the controller is under powered for this application. ... show more

  • Has its flaws but
Size: 48V 2000W Style: 48V 2000W
It has its flaws but it works nicely nice speed and has grate torque the only flaw that that concerns me is the not fully drilled vent holes but that’s an easy fix and will be addressing that in a couple of days when I have time to do so

  • Poor Quality: Don't Buy
Size: 48V 2000W Style: 48V 2000W
I was excited when I purchased this for an electric moped conversion I am doing. It arrived but I didn't examine the parts right away since I had work. When my weekend came and I examined everything, most of the parts were in poor condition. I am a lead engineering technician in the research and development department of a semiconductor company, and i'm really comfortable with electronics, quality and troubleshooting. First thing I noticed were several deep gouges, cosmetic scratches and melted plastic on the speed controller. Everything was wrapped up really well in foam so I know it wasn't from shipping. It looked like it was beat up and used but by looking at the connectors I know it wasn't used before. Whether this is made by this seller or bought from a vendor, it shows that they do not care about quality. I'm nitpicking the minor cosmetic issues because this also correlates to workmanship standards and gives me concern on whether or not this was built correctly. I do have to say that without taking it apart I can confirm that they have a higher gauge wire for the rating of the speed controller amp wise so from the outside that does bring some comfort. The second thing I noticed, is that the motor itself didn't have the air cooling plate appropriately drilled out. I noticed metal shavings on the outside and a couple on the inside of the holes. This screams a risk of arcing. 95% of the holes weren't drilled all the way through which is a rushed job. I also noticed that one of the screws on the motor is stripped out. This lets me know that they do not care about quality, and that there is no torque specification for these components or at least not done correctly. The third thing which really annoys me is the fact that this is borderline false advertisement. They advertise as it being a 2000 watt brushless motor but upon looking in the somewhat okay instruction manual states that you need a 40 amp speed controller to be able to get that or at least close to it. They claim they kit this motor with the 33 amp speed controller to help make the motor last longer and that it is really 1600 watts but those that have tested it have verified its much less than that. Overall, the poor quality, workmanship and misleading advertisement makes me believe this is not worth the price, the risk of injury and I hope that this review saves someone both time and money from buying this poorly made kit. I would give this a 0 out of 5 rating if I could. Edit: I've gone through with a multimeter and everything appears to be safe. No unexpected grounding and the continuity of everything seems about right. I will continue testing with the multimeter and will update the review as things progress. ... show more

  • Good upgrade for Razor MX
Size: 48V 2000W Style: 48V 2000W
Pretty good little upgrade for a Razor MX500. Installation was not too bad. Had to recess the head of two of the motor bolts as they were hitting the mounting bracket on the bike. Then had to cut off the extra length of the bolt that was sticking out the other side of the motor. Also had to cut off the aluminum mounting bracket on the motor as it is not needed and was in the way. Everything wired up pretty easily. Only little issue was the plugs on the controller for the brakes did not match the plugs on the brakes themselves. No big deal, just cut the plugs off the old controller and crimp them onto the new one. I paired this kit with a 48v, 18ah LiFePo4 battery from eBay and the bike goes for miles. My kids ride for several days without recharging. I am 200 lbs and it will pull me up to 26 mph on flat road. ... show more
