  • 5 for value, 4 for quality, works with "normal" cameras
I've been working on a lighting and camera setup for video calls since I'm often on them for several hours a day now thanks to quarantine lockdowns. I already had a keylight setup for video calls, but needed some soft front light to help even out my face and make my eyes not look like death. This fit the bill perfectly and does a great job - here's a quick rundown: Value - 5/5. You get a pretty solid soft ring light with multiple options and touch controls, a decentish tripod, and a remote (haven't tried it) for dirt cheap. Yes, it's all plastic, but it works great for home photography. Quality - 4/5. Let's be honest, at this price point there's no way you're going to get high quality components and you shouldn't expect them, either. The tripod is not going to compete with $100+ ones, nor is the light itself. But they get the job done just fine. Note that the tripod is not particularly robust, so I don't recommend using it with a heavy DSLR. It's fine with phones and even with my Sony RX100 camera, but I wouldn't put anything much heavier than that on it since the joints aren't particularly tight (especially tilt up/down) and it's just not designed for that. Light - 4/5. In comparison to my reference true 5500K LED keylight, the default setting is slightly orange (not a big deal), and you also get two alternate setting options - one more orange and the other more blue. Brightness options offer plenty of variance, but note that if your other room lighting is super dim like mine, the output from the ring light probably won't cut it on its own for good photos. In that case consider stepping up to a bigger ring or adding another light. Also important to me was the softness of the light and the diffusion on top of the LEDs does a great job here - nice soft shadows. Important note if you want to use a real camera (like a DSLR) with this: Yes, you can! The kit assembles as three separate pieces - the tripod is like a normal one with a standard 1/4 20 screw thread on top, then the light unit screws onto that and itself has another 1/4 20 screw thread on top of the controls (so the screw is inside the ring, about a half-inch above the bottom of the inside edge). You can use the provided phone holder to screw into that and hold your phone, or screw in a camera instead so that the camera is inside the ring. HOWEVER, note that there is only 60mm from the center of the thread to the inside edge of the ring so measure your camera and make sure it will fit without hitting the side. My RX100 IV barely fits, but I added a quick release system to it that lifts it 3/4" up so it's not an issue - you might need to do something similar if your camera is wide or has a screw mount way off center. ... show more

  • Great Ring Light for Occasional Usage
Style: White,Warm,Daylight Size: 14"
Our office has decided to offer a "headshot" selfie station as an addition to our services. We are not sure how much it will be used and wanted a quality ring light on a budget. This checked most of the boxes we were looking for: collapsible, easy to move/carry, varying colors of white lighting (natural, soft, warm, etc.), phone holder, remote to snap pic, and general ease of use. We put it together and it tested it out when it arrived. It was easy to put it together (though the instructions were just a touch confusing) and learn to operate. There are 2 distinct drawbacks that we discovered (at least for our purposes). #1: While the ring light itself does fold in half, there is not a bag or anything to safely transport it (nor the remote and the phone holder) to another location. #2: The remote connects via Bluetooth (obviously); this would normally not be an issue, but we are placing ownership of taking these "professional" photos on the students (so they have them instantly on their own phones without any involvement from our office). We will now have to ensure that every student "forgets this device" BEFORE they leave our office. Otherwise, we were unable to connect another phone to use the remote. Other than these items, we really like this ring light so far! ... show more

  • Great little ring light - with a couple caveats
This is a great little light - three color temps ("cool" - almost blue'ish, medium - more white, and warm a little yellow'ish), with 10 brightness settings for each. The light is really great for webcasting. I use the "white" color on the highest setting, and it's bright, with good diffusion (the yellow'ish light was great also). The tripod is pretty light-weight (i.e., it's not a DSLR tripod), but it is sturdy for it's weight. It holds the light, and it would hold a cell phone with no problem - it would be great for that. I was hoping to put my DSLR in it, and that's a no, for me. For my setup, I don't trust the tripod with my Canon 5D Mark IV (my lens is oriented between to legs). Also, the camera (with a tripod bracket on) doesn't fit inside the ring. So, I have the camera on it's tripod, and the light is on it's tripod right behind the camera. That setup, just behind my monitor (3-4 ft), works great. The light is bright, but diffuse enough to not be blinding (like some of the panel led lights). I use the light for meetings and trainings. While probably not an issue for most, I would like to turn on/off the light remotely - e.g., "Alexa turn on my light", but no way to do that. I was thinking I could plug the light into a smart plug then power that on/off, but no - the light must be turned on and off from the light. If you're using your phone as your camera - you will love this. If you want to mount a DSLR inside the ring, it may or may not be happy with it. ... show more

  • Great Light for the Price
This is actually a great light. My only complaint is that I would like it to be a bit more sturdy or heavier. My phone fits well in the center light holder. iPad will not work in this unit. There are different light shades and then you can adjust the intensity higher or lower. The 12” size is perfect. It is very universal in that it can shrink down to fit on a counter or desktop, or expand to 6 feet tall. Quite impressive. You can also adjust the tilt of your phone or light forward or backward. I mostly use this when I’m getting out of the shower or getting ready. I turn on the light and put a YouTube video on my phone in the center of the ring while my phone charges. It’s a triple win. ... show more
