3.5-YEAR UPDATE: This mower is still going strong and remains a recommended buy. The battery still retains a solid charge, and we're still able to mow the entire yard on a single charge. There have been no issues whatsoever at this point. Awesome! 2-YEAR UPDATE: I was looking through my previous reviews and saw that a lot of people found this review helpful, so I thought I'd give an update two years later. My wife and I still have had no problem with this mower. It continues to work perfectly well, the battery seems to be holding its charge well, and it's still a pleasure to use. My experience with this mower - as alluded to in the original review - led us to buy a couple of other EGO products which have also been outstanding. I'm now an electric lawn tool convert! This is still a 5-star product two years later. Not having to deal with gas, oil, etc. is awesome with no significant compromises for our case. Strongly recommended! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I will freely admit that I was a bit skeptical of having an electric mower. I liked the idea of not having to deal with gas and the necessary mess and smells that come along with it, but I was worried that an electric mower would never have the same power as a gas-powered mower and thought I would have to spend more time waiting for the battery to charge than actually doing lawn work. The EGO immediately did away with those assumptions after the first mow. Those that have described the EGO as the "Tesla of mowers" are absolutely right. This thing screams "premium" and "well-engineered" along every inch of its design. It's built with quality materials yet significantly lighter than a gas-powered mower thanks to the electric mower. It quickly and easily converts from its fold away storage mode to ready-to-use in a few seconds with minimal work. The battery charges INSANELY fast: from no charge on delivery to a full charge took only about 30 minutes, and I was easily able to mow my front and back yards on a single charge (roughly 25-30 minutes of mowing) with plenty of room to spare. The mower puts out plenty of power and had absolutely no trouble with my overgrown lawn. Adjusting the height of the blade was by far the easiest I've ever seen on a mower: the mechanism works almost exactly like a manual transmission on a car and is extremely easy to adjust. Finally, no more adjusting wheel by wheel painfully trying to move levers to the correct position. The only "complaint," if you can call it that, is that the battery charger is quite loud. There's a fan that turns on while the battery is charging to prevent it from overheating. It's not the kind of thing you're likely to hear in the garage, but when indoors - since I couldn't wait to give this thing a whirl as soon as I got it - it's pretty noticeable. Time will tell how long this honeymoon period lasts. My main concern at this point is the longevity of the battery. At $200 a pop, it's not a cheap part to replace and batteries will, inevitably, lose their charge. After a couple of trips through the yard though, I couldn't be happier with this mower. First off, as far as a lawn mower I really appreciate the low noise...neighbors gotta love it and I already have enough hearing damage I don't need to worry about this mower making it worse...things I love: weight, design, ease of use, and the fact no oil or gas to operate....things ots lacks, the HP, it has no balls, it gets bogged down quickly in mulch mode, but as a plus it doesnt take more than tilting the mower to fix and restart...restart is quick and simple, I also wish it had a plug I feature...I just finished 90% of my small basic subdivision lawn on a 5.0 battery and I'm writing this review while I wait for it to recharge in order to finish the rest...I had the mower on number 3 setting...check out the pics. ... show more

    • Fantastic mower but I still kept my my old gas hog!
Style: Mower with 5.0Ah Battery Kit
This is a fantastic Mower and I couldn't recommend it enough. I like to keep my lawn somewhat higher than other people do so I mow more frequently and keep the deck higher than most people do. For me this mower is perfect because on the highest setting it mows the lawn just as I would like it to be. Using this mower is like taking a stroll compared to other mowers I have. It's super quiet and no gas or fumes and is a true joy to operate. I put my headphones on and use this as an exercise activity. I get exercise and frequent high mowing makes my yard look better than the neighbors. Why scalp your yard when you can stroll with this twice a week? It's real joy compared to the bad azz gas mowers I have. It's so easy to push and maneuver around. My lot is 1/2 of an acre with the house set in the middle of the lot. I can mow the whole front yard (1/4 acre) in about an hour and the mower doesn't even indicate low battery. I charge the battery and mow the backyard the next day. Alternatively, I'll eat lunch and weed wack while charging the battery and then do the back yard. I have the 5 amp battery so I can mow for about an hour before it needs charged again. Charging does only take 30 minutes. I have mowed my yard 25 plus times with this mower and it works great. My only concern about this mower is that I don't think it would do well in early spring when I have to mow really high wet grass . I've mowed wet grass with it before and did not have a problem. Early Spring however is different. I live in North East, Ohio and early Spring is usually rainy and grass can grow an inch a day or more. I'd like to mow the yard on a perfect day but you just don't have that opportunity. I may have to go out and mow wet grass that's 5-6" tall just to control the yard until the next opportunity I have to mow. My problem is compounded by my early Spring use of fertilizer which makes the grass grow super thick and at a fast rate. I like a green lush yard. I haven't thrown my Husqvarna 7.75 HP out and probably wont ever do that. The 7.75 HP Husqvarna is a power house of a hand mower that is a self propelled chore on wheels to run but is un-replaceable on certain early spring days. On the rest of the later spring and summer days. I'm out strolling in my yard with this light weight dream mower. Over all this is a fantastic machine that may work perfect for you depending upon where you live and how thick your lawn is. For me it works almost all of the time and is a joy to use VS my old gas hogs. I have a thick lush yard and keep it high . It's my first choice on most days but I 'm still keeping my bad azz mower for the not so good days of early spring. ... show more
